Stealing the Magic for 2 - WB Panama Canal - Updated 7/5

Matt, I am so loving reliving this trip through your trip report! This vacation already seems like a distant memory or like a dream and we have only been home for two weeks. I think we need a permanent vacation onboard the Disney Magic.:goodvibes

You know, it's funny you should say that. I too feel like the whole vacation was a dream that's hard to remember at times. It seems unreal. What's worse, I still think it's May and not the middle of June! :confused3

I feel just like that Matt. It really seems a dream. Did I really go on that fantastic cruise?

I am really loving ths trip report. I feel like I was there with you (or maybe that should be I wish).

Can't wait to read more - one question I have to ask, though, was the whole Panama Canal 'thing' a bit of an anti-climax?

I truly thought that I would end up saying "big deal" about the Panama Canal. But I have to say that the Panama Canal and the cruise as a whole exceded my expectations by far. It truly was the best vacation ever!:thumbsup2

It all seems a big blurr now. even going through pictures and video doesn't seem like we actually left a month ago. and I am just starting to get my own trip report started. thank heavens disers have patience and btw keep it comeing. I was one of the ones who didn't make it to the diningroom that night. and if i remember right, they didn't have a show in the theater because they were premiering Prince Caspian in the theater. I have to admit though once I get myself a bit more settled, going through the canal will be one of those things I will never forget.

I would so love to do it again but just can't imagine what it would be like in the rain!!! We checked the weather before we set off on the cruise, and once we reached LA, and it was rain all the time!!! We were so blessed.

For me, PC day was something I'll never forget! I only wish I'd had the stamina to stay awake all day for it. I got up at 5 a.m. and got a great spot on deck 10, so I saw everything all the way through Gatun Locks. By then I was very hot, very sweaty and very tired. I went to my cabin, took a shower and fell asleep for about 1.5 hr. I then had to get together with my FE group to get our gift ready, so I didn't get back on deck until about 2:30. I missed the whole lunch on deck 9 and all of Gatun Lake, which I'm sorry about, but I just couldn't do it all.

Before the trip, I'd heard some talk like, "You've seen one lock, you've seen them all" which made me think that you really wouldn't want to spend ALL DAY watching, but I found it fascinating! If I do it again, I'll try to pace myself better so I miss as little as possible (maybe none!).

I loved it so much I have been looking at other cruise lines going theough the PC!! I would do the day a little differently again. Boy, I would love to start this cruise all over again.

At Panama Canal, we stayed at our balcony and watch the all the locks. As we feel miss out on another side but we glad that we see lots. Ian fall sleep then we went up for bbq then friend and Ian were in swimming pool and I noticed lots of people went back on front ship and I went over and took the pictures but had to be squeeue in somepeople wont give me the space and I had to explained that only taking the pictures. they let me in!! Then we decided to go back to balcony with our kids as it was cooling there. Saw last lock. It was amazing day and we went up on deck 10 after throught the big bridge to take the photos of Panama City.

We went to bed early about 8.30 pm at night we were shattered that day. As it was a long day.

but felt that we had a dream not we saw it. Amazing is it.

Got the lovely pictures and have not see the video yet.

We also slept through the BBQ but I was ok with that, since the smell of BBQ makes me quesey.

We have not had internet and DH's computer had to be replaced. He will update again as soon as things are back to normal.

Oh Debrah... it was a dream wasn't!!! I loved the whole day but when I look at my pictures I keep telling myself I should have taken a shower that day, but with the heat... it wouldn't have mattered!!!!! :rotfl2:

I'd love to do the EB... Lottery, yes, but time to go, I can't... besides it wouldn't be the same without our group!!! ;)

Oh Jill... are things ever normal???

Forgot to ask... how was the Candy Cane Inn and your ride over????

Hi Matt & Jill, sounds like your trip was a blast .. how could it not be? I sure do miss our 10 night cruise thread, I can't believe they closed it. I've missed catching up on what everyone is doing, and I'm so glad I found this trip report of yours. So I have to ask .. which ship do you like better - the Magic or the Wonder? Keep the report coming .. I'm living it vicariously through you guys. Don't forget to post some pics of the scrapbook swap, I'm curious to see what others do, so I can gather some inspiration.

Day 8 – Day at Sea!

After a restful night, Jill and I managed to get up and get a little breakfast. Our first event today was Desperate Shipmates. We weren’t quite sure what it was, but it turned out it was a multi-day mystery that had a clue each day and a little show. We got a cool notepad out of the deal so it wasn’t too bad. My only complaint was that the events were timed badly sometimes and it interfered with other activities on the ship.

Then it was time to go see Don Ducky Williams in the Walt Disney Theater. We saw his presentation on our last cruise but it’s a really great story even if you’ve heard it before. Plus, there was always a chance to win one of the 25 or so sketches that he draws while speaking. We didn’t win one, but it was good fun all around.

Pick me! Pick me!

After the presentation we also went and got our lithograph by Ducky signed. They give each deck a specific time so that it doesn’t overwhelm him. At one signing the line was all the way back to Studio Sea!

Can you make it out to Ebay? Why yes, what a popular name these days!

Then it was off to get ready for dinner and the show. Tonight was Twice Charmed, which Jill and I had not seen. We had heard great things about it and they were true! We both really enjoyed this show, although I would think that the quality would depend on the actors. If you don’t have a really good bad guy the show just wouldn’t have been as enjoyable.

This guy was so bad the show was great!

After the show and before dinner, we went out to Deck 4 to relax for a few minutes. The sky was amazing; you could almost see the split between light and dark. I’m not sure if you’ll be able to see it from the picture below, alas that is the disadvantage of photography vs real life.

Light meets the dark... or the other way around?

It was a semi-formal night, and we had a dressed down appearance from the diplomats. I’m afraid that I ate too much that night to be presentable on camera.

It's all about the broach.

After dinner we headed back to the room to find that is was infested by yet another animal. This time it was dangerous. Although I was stung several times during the night, I managed to get a few hours sleep.

Let's just say if this was not made out of towels we would have been in a really cheesy horror movie!

Hi Matt! I was starting to wonder what happened to you. Looking forward to day 9 but not holding my breath!:rotfl2: Hope you and Jill are doing great!:goodvibes

Well I hate to be one of those trip writers that drags it out... I kept having internet issues, I've been running ragged at work plus we're opening "Anything Goes" this Thursday (I'm the technical director and lighting designer) so we've been building set and setting lights for the last two weeks. For those that don't know, the show is set on a cruise ship. I might have to try and sneak a green lanyard in somewhere

Don't worry, I will finish this TR before the next cruise! :rotfl2:

Don't worry... Matt will probably be done LONG before Planky get's his furry little butt in gear and finishes his.... :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

At the rate you two are going, I'll be done with mine before you're done with the Panama Canal ones. And I don't sail until November.
