Hi all,

Would this be an incredible long shot? We're looking at going to WDW the first week of April 2008 for our spring break. While our "home" is VWL and we love it there, I was thinking about saving points if I could get a std one bedroom at BWV's. Is spring break a peak time for DVC (we're new to this)? Is that going to be pretty much impossible?

Would you make a ressie at VWL and change to BWV if possible? I have to borrow some points from the next year so I'd have to make a ressie for one less day at VWL for now? Because borrowed points can't be put back right?

Any tips? Thanks!

You are right that borrowed points can't be put back. Are there any of the current year points that could be banked if the SV does become available.

I suppose that you stand the best chance since you want a 1 bedroom. I hope you get it, call day by day when the time comes!:wizard:

I teach in University of Cincinnati and our spring break is the last week of March, which includes Easter next year. It's the highest point class, so we're skipping a spring break DVC visit next year.

IMHO, a 1 bedroom SV is possible, but not probable.

My advice is to reserve VWL (so you'll have a place to stay no matter what), and then try to switch at 7 months. If you don't want to borrow to do that, consider reserving only the weekday portion of your stay. It's a bit of a risk, but generally, the Friday and Saturday nights book more slowly and will still be available even after the 7 month window opens.

I agree with Bobbi - call day by day. Your best chance is to waitlist for the individual days if they are not available when you call. However, that strategy carries the risk of having to move back and forth if all the days don't come through.

Another option (if you don't want to borrow points for the VWL reservation) is to just wait until 7 months to try to book the BWV. If you can't get it (and aren't willing to risk the day by day waitlist), book OKW or SSR as your back up. Those resorts will also cost less points and there is an excellent chance they will still be available at 7 months. Then you can waitlist for the whole vacation at the BWV knowing your lodging is set no matter what.

Good luck!

we did a 1-bdrm std view at BWV last year during feb school vacation for 17 nights. had to go day by day and wait listed for a couple of days but it came through within a couple weeks. so it is possible. we got a 1-bdrm std view for 2008, though we are going 10-days earlier to make two trips on our annual passes. This res came off without a hitch at the 7 month window, no waitlist. Good luck, the location makes it worth the effort :wizard: pixiedust:

Thanks everyone! I just got our new member handbook in the mail but I haven't read through it yet. So, you can change your reservations as long as there is availability, I just can't put the borrowed points back, correct?

Looking at the points charts there is OKW and even SSR which are a few less points. I may end up renting a few points if I'm short I guess.

I will make a VWL ressie and then go from there, checking what is available at 7 mos. I can't wait! Thanks for all the advice and pixie dust:)

Yes, that is correct.

Another idea is to book your VWL stay, and book one VWL night on cash - you can cancel that. Or book one night at your favorite CRO resort on cash. Then, if you get your Standard View stay, you just use the points you were using anyway.

It involves a move, but that isn't a huge deal.

A lot of DVCers fly in on Saturday and do their Saturday night stay on cash to save points. A lot of us like some of the non-DVC resorts and find it a pleasant opportunity to revisit an old favorite or try something new. We are thinking about doing the Y&BC next year for one night and making check in day "pool day" for the kids before moving "home" to BWVs. I also have POR on my list of resorts I'd like to spend one day at. We did it a year or so ago with AKL.

Thanks crisi, we might do that. I wasn't sure I wanted to have to move mid trip but we could. I'm still trying to stay at every WDW resort and I think I'm only about halfway. I'm so excited to be a DVC member I'm trying to make the most out of it!

We did just this a few years ago. We booked right at the 7 month window for our spring break (3rd week of March). We had to go on the list (entire week, not day by day) and within 2 weeks our waitlist had come thru. I'm not sure when Easter is. If this is the week of Easter, you may not have the same luck, but if this is not Easter week, then I definately think Spring Break in a SV 1 bedroom is possible, because I've done it.

Good Luck,
Lissa

I was able to get a standard 1 bedroom for late April in 2004 at 7 months.
