Help please, as we're Ozzies and don't know details & dimensions of US cars.

I assume we need to hire a SUV as we'll be doing a big driving trip from MCO, up through the Smoky Mountains, back through NC and back for 2 weeks R&R at WDW at the end.

So, what's the size difference between a Intermediate (e.g.Pontiac Vibe) & Std (Chevy Trailblazer) SUV? Are both 4x4s? (in case there's ice/snow around).

Going by the Avis website - there's more luggage space in the Intermediate than the std (for an extra small suitcase), is this right? They list as only being able to take 2 large suitcases & 2/3 small, BUT we have a Mitsubishi Pajero (SUV) here & it can easily take 4 large wheeled duffels plus asst carryon - do the car rental companies only list how many bags will sit on the floor space and not allow for them to be stacked???

There are four of us DH (who's 6'2"), DD11, DD10 & me (DW). Luggage is likely to be 3 large wheeled duffel travel bags, and 4 smallish wheeled carryons (or backpacks). So what would you reccomend?? Thanks:)

Hi there Fellow Aussie

A pontiac vibe is similar to a Toyota RAV4 or a Ford Escape/Mazda Tribute in size, whereas a trailblazer is more like a Pajero, from our experience in the US in 2006. They are both 4 by 4 but the Vibe is a 'lightweight' one, more like a city 4 by 4 than one for real 4 by 4'ing...

We fit 4 suitcased plus 3 roll ons in the Vibe size with no probs, but there was only 2 A and 1C in the car

Hope this helps!:thumbsup2

Hi, I have a Pontiac Vibe and I do not think it will hold all your luggage. It really is not in the SUV class of cars. I would recommend either a mid size (RAV4,Equinox) or to play it safe the full size suv (trailblazer). Normally we rent a mid size 2 adults 2 kids 3 large suitcases, double stroller, and 2-3 back packs. We can squeeze this all into a RAV4/or the Equinox. The trailblazer has much more room if needed. I would not recommend the vibe it's a great car but not enough space. Check out GM's website to look at the SUV's.

It's odd that Avis considers a vibe to be an SUV at all, it's a smallish hatchback car. Those wheeled duffels are pretty big. I don't think they would fit at all. Your pajero would most likely be classified as a standard SUV.
