So, were thinking of heading to DL in July and thinking of scraping up the money to stay on site. Original thought was to stay at the Californian to have the access to the park right from the lobby..but now I am wondering if I stay at one of the cheaper onsite hotels can I still use the entrance in the Californian? :confused3

In only guessing here but I don't think you can use that GCH entrance unless you stay there.

Yes, you can. We were there last year, and used it several times, and we stayed at DLH.

You can use the GCH entrance to DCA if you're not a DLR hotel guest, but only after the park has been open several hours. It varies.

If you have breakfast at the GCH, however, you can use the GCH entrance at park opening if you show your receipt from that morning's meal.

No, not until later in the day or have eaten at one of the hotel eateries, some times those receipts are also denied. The early AM lines had a lot of mis-informed guests that were turned away with out the resort hotel room key. All of this is discussed in GrandCalifornian super thread. Have fun.

Any guest staying at any of the three Disney hotels can use the GC entrance into California Adventure. They will ask to see your room key cards (as well as your park tickets) in the mornings. Make sure to have a key for everyone in your party, including children, just in case.

For informational purposes, the sign at the entrance says: Entrance for Disneyland Resort Guests Only....although this doesn't seem to be enforced later in the day.

Also, people who have breakfast at Storytellers at the Grand Californian can also use the private entrance. They will need to show their receipt (along with park tickets) in the mornings.

In all the times I've been there, by late morning to noon-ish, anyone with a park ticket is allowed to use the private entrance.

YES!! One of the perks of staying onsite at ANY of the three Resort hotels is that you can use the private entrance at DCA. We have stayed several times at PPH and only use that entrance. We lined up before the parks opened and they check room keys and let you in earlier than the regular entrance opens. It was great, got to get our WOC Fastpass, walk on Soarin', ride LM and still line up for rope drop for TSMM. It is a great perk!

I'm just confirming this since some of the earlier posts are incorrect. You can use the Grand's park entrance in the morning so long as you are staying at ANY of the THREE on-site hotels, it doesn't just have to be the Grand. We did this without issue when we stayed at PPH.

That's what I get for guessing. I thought I read on here differently but obviously not. That's good to know since we will stay at PPH next trip for our first on site stay.
