Staying On Disney Property VS Staying Off Property?

I need to make a decision in roughly a week. My husband and I have gone to Disney World before, but we have only stayed off of Disney property because their hotel's are so expensive. Recently I discovered the idea of renting DVC points which has made it much more affordable. So, is staying on Disney property worth the extra money?

For reference, it is almost double the cost of staying at an off site hotel that includes a kitchen. The hotel we are looking at for 7-nights is roughly $500.

What we would be doing if we stayed at a Disney property is:
Two Nights off-site
Two nights at Old Key West
Three nights at Animal Kingdom Lodge Savannah View
This would cost us about a $1,000. So, I am wondering if staying at Disney would be worth the price increase in your opinion? We will be driving, so we will have a car.

We could also split the vacation down the middle splitting the days between two places (one off-site and one on-site). That would cost about $800.

To us, staying onsite is the only way - everyone has their own opinions, and what you enjoy most is right for you!

We leave 'all' driving to Disney and it's soooo relaxing to us.

So for my family which is just me and my gf.

We fly and stay on property.

It's to much of a hassle to rent a car and stay off property.

So between car rental parking time wasted by driving and parking I dont see it saving us any money.

I hate moving hotel/condo rooms during my vacation. It is a pain. I would rent off site and stay put.

We have only once stayed on site and it wasn't all that (just my opinion obviously). We won't do it again while we have 3 kids living at home.

I am normally a huge proponent of staying off-site. However, I make one exception - and that is Savannah View at AKL. The resort is UNBELIEVABLE, and there is nothing that compares to starting your day by walking out of your room onto the balcony and seeing the animals roaming free below you.

If it were me, I would stay 4 days off-site (all together so you don't have to move), then move to AKL for 3 days. Or if you can swing it, do 3 off-site and 4 at AKL. I'd skip OKW - I've stayed there and it is fine, but it's no more convenient than many of the off-site hotels, not any nicer, and A LOT more expensive, even when renting DVC points.

where do you guys stay off site with a kitchen for 500 over 7 days? Everywhere I look off site its slightly cheaper but then the parking fee and "resort fee" make it about the same with disney
Check out Skyauction (look under Florida once you're on the site) - you can find even less expensive deals than this!
