staying on Cornado for 4 nights can we go without a car?

We are staying at the Cornado Inn which I hear is near the ferry landing. We had a hotel in DownTown but when I needed to add a 4th night it is booked up. We are going on a cruise to the Mexican riveria on the Spirit. I hear the bus and trolly serivce works good. We would like to go to the zoo, SW, can we do this w/o a car or should we rent one?

you never know what the nights may offer,

and if you do you can check out old town San Diego at night.
great place to have a nice mexican styled dinner
