Staying off-site

+1. This is one of the big reasons why I like staying in a condo. I get up earlier than my wife and kids, and it gives me time to eat breakfast, take my shower, get ready for the day, etc., without disturbing anyone.

This is a good point- we want to do a vacation while I am on maternity leave in the spring and will have a 7 month old- I think a condo will be the best to work with sleep schedules

We took my son on vacation when he was six weeks old. Having a condo allowed us to get up with him for nighttime feedings and diaper changes without waking everyone else up. We couldn't have taken him on vacation in a standard hotel room.

We did a truly off-site last month and it was just fine. We stayed at the Caribe Royal. It was nice to have so much room to spread out and a full fridge. Since your children are young you will be going to the parks and leaving together so needing resort busses is not something that you must have. There are plusses to both on-site and off-site. Budget is a huge factor. While I enjoy my on-site stays my off-site stays are just as enjoyable, just a little different.

I suggest a split stay, 3 nights on -site and 7 off , if you can swing 10 days. Hit the parks all you can during first 3 nights, then on the day you switch resorts enjoy the pool , just relax. Best of both worlds. Heck we did 1 night on site, a week at Windsor Hills (had a crazy great rate of $199 for a 2/2/ condo for the week) and 1 night back on-site the last time we went. Worked out great ! I will add tho, our DD had an AP at the time which covered our parking during the off site part.

Where did you book for $199? Was it a condo close to the pool? Thanks!

My children prefer to stay offsite. I am taking my 2 grandsons I raise this time so we were going to stay onsite but my 11, 13 and 18yo all had a fit about it saying they didn't want to stay onsite. We have done both and they like having more room and their own space so to speak. We have a 12day trip planned and it would have cost us around $3900 just for accommodations, we got a 4bdrm rental house with a private inground pool and hot tub for $1300. We are saving $2600 and getting wayyyyyy more space, not to mention we can eat a real breakfast there without having to pay and arm and leg (and precious time from our park schedule) to eat a good breakfast every day.

We stayed at Wyndham Bonnet Creek and I would recommend checking that one out (there's a huge thread on the Orlando Area Hotels forum). It is really nice and has fun pools and a great "resort" feel and is so close and convenient to everything Disney. The extra space and washer-dryer was wonderful.

BUT, the rest of my family really missed being in a Disney hotel. DH didn't like having to drive everyday, and they all missed the theming of everything. I think they are overruling me for our next trip.
