Looking at the following hotels to stay during a trip to Disneyland next year....

Marriott Anaheim Suites
Embassy Anaheim South
Holiday Inn Express

Is it a nice area?

We like this area. We stayed at Homewood in June 2011 and next week. There is a Target and lots of options for restaurants. I would not consider it walking distance to the park but there is the ART and some hotels offer designated shuttles.

Homewood Main Gate is ranked #1 on Tripadvisor for that area - will that be your first visit there?

There's lots of great hotels within walking distance- good prices too. Have you thought about staying closer?

My family always stays at the HoJo. Love it there!

We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in July and liked it. While it isn't "walking distance", we walked it anyway. Only one night did we take a taxi. But I"m not sure we would walk it again. It was a last minute, join DH on a work trip, thing, with no budget for parking and with serious confusion over shuttles, etc.

But wow there are lots of things close by! Buca di Beppo, Red Robin...the Target is right there. good stuff.

It is possible to walk to the Toy Story lot and take the Disney shuttles, if you don't want to take ART.
The area is nice and we've heard positive feedback from friends who've stayed there (Embassy Suites GG, Hyatt OC, Homewood Suites, Sheraton GG).

This will be our 4th trip to Disneyland since June 2011 and our second stay at Homewood. I regretted not staying there in for Christmas/New Years. For the extra $100 it would have been worth it to me to not be at an ART hotel. There have been some hit/miss reviews on here lately. My last experience was great. I had no complaints and look forward to my trip (I love watching my countdown in my signature).

We can put the kids to bed and still relax and watch TV in the other room. We use the full fridge and microwave in the room. We went to Target and bought bottled water and soda. We put the water in the freezer to take the to park the next day. I bought a frozen pizza for a late night snack and microwave popcorn. We found the breakfast to be perfect for our family. We also enjoyed the light meals with beer and wine Monday - Thursday. The dedicated shuttle is a great feature too. It was on time and reliable. I won't stay at another ART hotel - ever.

Another benefit for me staying at the Homewood is you can sign up for Hilton Rewards. It's not a credit card. Just like a rewards card you would get at the grocery store. I book my hotel directly thru their website. I earned triple points for my stay on this trip and will have enough points for about 5 more nights. From a financial perspective that's a no brainer for me. You may want to look into it.

Marriott offers reward points too so if you go that route you should look into it. It might allow you to visit again. :)

We are staying at the HOJO in November. It will be our first time staying there. I've heard good things and look forward to checking it out. We were able to get the AP rate before they changed their policy. Personally, I don't think it is a great value at their regular prices. Especially considering it doesn't include a free breakfast or the evening light meal. I would only consider staying there at a promotional rate.

HoJo has Wyndham rewards too! ;)

We stay here every trip but I have never paid full price. I completely agree with you- I would never pay full price for this hotel. Price has gone up in the last year or so & the availability & promo programs have become "tedious"....but I was still able to get a good rate, so HoJo's it is!

If you have small kids, it's really so much easier to stay within walking distance. I love NOT having to deal with a stroller & parking lot trams & shuttles. But that's just me ;)
