I posted this here because I am interested in where Fort Wilderness campers/cabiners like to eat and buy groceries? I have a 3DS so I don't want to travel all over to eat. What are your thoughts?

We usually bring breakfast foods and eat breakfast in our camper. Most of the other meals are eat out at parks and various hotels. Trails end at FW has great meals and you can take the internal bus to get there. If you want to eat at the cabiin you might want to go to one of the local area grocery stores to stock up.

Hi Skyw,

I have stayed in the Ft W cabins twice, and have found the following:

- the breakfast at Trail's End is great
- the buffet dinner at Trail's End is not so great (I didn't like the fried chicken...note that others have reported they do like it)
- the stores in Fort Wilderness, Meadow Trading Post and Settlement Trading Post, have a decent selection of groceries to get you by until you get a chance to go to a full grocery store
- the two closest grocery stores to Fort Wilderness are Goodings Grocery Store at route S.R. 535 near the intersection with I-4 (its actually just across from the Disney gates at the exit from Downtown Disney), and a Winn-Dixie on the same highway (SR 535) except a mile north of Goodings(the full address of the Winn-Dixie is 11957 S Apopka Vineland Rd, Orlando, FL if you want to search on Mapquest). Winn-Dixie is cheaper and Goodings is open 24 hours.
- there is also a Walgreen's near the Winn-Dixie (but across the street)

We are frequent "cabin stayers". We drive so we bring a lot of what we need with us and then stock up at the Winn Dixie mentioned above. Good prices there and the store is fairly new, clean and not crowded.

Then we do a mix of eating at the cabin, and eating out both on and off site.
We always hit Trails End for a breakfast or two, and usually once for dinner or lunch. I bring frozen stuff like spaghetti and meatballs or lasagne that are quick and we usually grill steaks once. And we will have sandwich stuff and pizza on hand if we are in the cabin in the afternoon. When we go in Dec we will be eating out more than usual and are trying a few new places along with our favorites. On our list is Ohana, Boma, Whispering Canyon Cafe, Biergarten, and Le Cellier. Other than that we will hit several counter service places and maybe one offsite place. Last time it was Cheesecake Factory at Millennia Mall.

Have a great time!

thanks for the info. I was thinking with a 3DS that places to eat that we could get to easily would be at Magic Kingdom and the restorts that are accessable by boat or monorail. Is that a good plan or am I wrong?! The more time it takes to get there...the less time my 3DS will sit still and eat.

We stay in our camper but with 3 kids(8,3,1) I think its easier to eat in the camper than to go out. We usually eat breakfast before we head out and either bring sandwiches with us (a cooler in the car if we drive or PB&J in my backpack) or we return to FW for a lunch break. I like to get a take out buffet from Trails End for dinner at least one night (they give you 3 containers to fill up), and my kids love Chef Mickey's which is just a short boat ride away.
