Staying in a vacation home?

I was not sure where to ask this question. So here goes...

We have a group going to Disney World, and as much as I would prefer to stay on site, it may make more sense to stay in a vacation home off-site.

Thoughts?

Thanks.

When we go with extended family we rent a house. I got them off ebay a couple of years in a row. Great experience. Lots of room. Last nov we had a 5bdrm 3 bath house for 700 for the week taxes, pool heat and cleaning were included. Never had a problem. Five minutes from Disney.

I LOOOOOOVE renting out a house.....we go often 3-4 times a year, and currently I am going through a stay at every resort on property phase, but before that all we did was rent a home, just for the two of us....it always came out cheaper than if we had stayed on site, the houses were always beautiful, had our own pool and jacuzzi....TONS of space. I think its great. Theres lots of websites that are all vacation rentals by owners, so you can deal directly with them, and see pictures and ask all the questions you want.

Go to the DVC forums and check out renting points for a villa.

We rented from Orlandovillas.com. Site has forums where you can ask general questions and get good answers. good luck!

this is the one we are renting:

we just got back Sun from a stay in a vacation home with 8 people

it is the best way to go in our opinion
the private pool is a great thing
and the money saved on food by having the kitchen

we stayed in a 5 bedroom 3 bath home
you can see it herehttp://www.jansfloridavilla.co.uk/

we have stayed at other houses before but this is by far the best we have ever been too
the management company is great
they and the owners do all they can to make your vacation special
can't wait till 2/06 to go back again

any questions feel free to ask:D

Renting a home is fantastic - especially if you have children - so nice to let them have their own rooms while you kick back and enjoy some peace and quiet of an evening .. and no traipsing all the way back to your hotel room when you forget something by the pool :)

We have rented some beautiful homes - I can recommend www.myfavoritefloridavilla.com

Another rental home lover here :D

We've done it numerous times and don't understand why anyone would rather stay in a hotel room. For under $100/nite, you can get a 3-bedroom, 2-bath house with a private, screened-in, in-ground pool, full kitchen, living room, dining area, washer and dryer, and lots more. For a little more, you can find homes with hot tubs, free Internet access and long distance calling, video game consoles and games, and lots of other little perks.

There is absolutely no comparison between a rental home and a hotel room onsite or offsite.

We stayed in one before we decided to purchase one. My mom rented a 7 bedroom for the whole family. 2 grandparents, 6 parents, 6 grand kids. My first thought was to my dh that we were going to bring extra cash incase one of us went over the edge. It was the best vaca we had ever taken. Enough room, built in baby sitters and built in playmates. It was as close to perfect as we could have came. I do not think you will be disappointed at all. Our homes have so many amenities for guests. Our has its own pool open all night. It is in the back yard. spa dvd and vcr players. A game system. The kids will be occupied while you shower and dress. W rks out great. Check out the web site and tell me what you think if you have a moment.

Good luck with finding a good match for your family. I know there is one out there.

What a coincidence! We arrive Feb 26 for a week. I have spoken to the owner and he seems like a dear! Emerald Footprints (the house) had absolutely everything we wanted and I thought the rate was very good (but not suspiciously cheap). Please do write a trip report when you return. Only about 2 months away!

Has anyone tried that site in the last few days? I put in our general requests and contact info on Friday morning, and have yet to get one response.

When I used them in '03 I'm sure I had ten responses in a few hours. I realize many of the owners are in the UK and would be online at different hours than I am, but I do wonder if my request is even getting through.

Guess I should just try again ...

ETA: I did try again and all is well, got about 25 responses within an hour. Now the really hard part - choosing a villa to rent - begins. ;)

As an owner on there I can tell you they changed their enquiry forms which may have led to a bit of a delay in owners replying and in some confusion as what we had to do with the new style but I am pleased you have replies now.
