We had booked a grand villa from 1/2-1/9 for a big family trip. We decided to fly a day early and arrive on 1/1 so we booked a couple studios for that night.

We don't care what studios we get but have put in requests for the GV.

What are our chances of getting the GV we want? Are they improved by the fact that we are already at Disney on the 1st?

Any insight or tips from anyone that has done this?

I don't think odds are improved just because you're spending the first night in a studio. There is a limited number of GVs at every resort, so it depends upon what your specific requests are, what room category you booked, and whether the people occupying your desired studio happen to be vacating the same day you check-in. Specific units are not reserved when the reservation is made, it inly shows that X number will be available in a specific category.

That said, DVC/Disney usually try their best to get you into a unit that meets at least some of your requests. It also depends upon how general your requests may be. If you request s specific room number, your odds go down.

If you are staying at BWV, I think there are only 7 GVs. This sure doesn't give the room assigner much flexibility. All the GVs are on floors 3 - 5 and all are BW view.

AT bwv THERE ARE 5 ONE FLOOR gv'S and 2 two fl GV's

We checked in to OKW on New Year's Day one year. We had spent the night at CBR for one night. We checked in about 7:30 or 8AM. We knew we wouldn't have a villa ready, but we were hoping to get in sometime during the early afternoon.

We didn't get in until nearly 6PM because the guests in the villa we were supposed to move into didn't check out before they headed to the parks. They finally returned around 3 or 4 and were asked to leave. They left a giant mess behind from their party the night before. The housekeepers were scheduled to be off by 4PM, but they stayed until almost 6 trying to get our villa ready. And our's wasn't the only one that guests had done that to.

So I hope you get into your studios sooner rather than later. And I hope you get your GV sooner rather than later.
