staying in 2 resorts during 1 trip

We are going down on Thanksgiving and spending 4 nights at Wilderness Lodge and then switching to Port Orleans Riverside for the following 6 nights. I'm just wondering if anyone has done any thing like this before and do you have any tips.

We stayed in three different resorts last December, and it was as easy as can be. Disney moved our luggage for us, all we had to do was pack in one room and unpack in the next!

We're moving around a bit this year, too, but at least we're staying more than one night in each place!

We'll be at Port Orleans Riverside ourselves from 12/2 - 12/7. It's a great time of year to be there!

Lots of people do it. We did it for the first time this year in January. WDW can transfer your luggage from resort to resort, but you do need to show up in person at the second resort to formally check-in. If you have your own car, I'd recommend that you use the switch day as a "down day". We got up at the Poly, ate breakfast at O'hana's, checked out, went shopping for a while, drove to the YC, checked in, and then hit the pool.

Can you flip-flop? I think it will be hard moving from a deluxe to a moderate and getting less space and amenities.

Also, I only had WDW move my luggage once for me--once was enough--they lost it, and the ensuing debacle won't ever be forgotten. I take care of it myself now. Even if it means paying for a cab, the $20 is worth the peace of mind.

I did take into consideration going from a deluxe resort to a moderate and considered flopping but we're actually getting a really great rate at POR that starts on December 1 and we couldn't get that rate for the first part of our trip.

My thinking was that if the parks are as busy as I've heard they can be during Thanksgiving weekend then it's better to be at the nicer resort where there is more stuff to do so that we can hang out there (we just loved BEING at the wilderness lodge so that shouldn't be a problem).

It sounds like a neat idea and lots of people do it. It really isn't an option for us because we drive down and take a great deal of stuff, drinks, food etc. and I wouldn't want to have to pack and unpack again, but that's just me. But if that isn't a concern for you, go for it. It'll be like taking two trips..

We've done this many times. The most we've moved is three times in one trip. We usually transfer our own luggage using bellman but we usually have a rental car or take a cab.

I've said this before...it's all in the packing. Take a duffel or folding suitcase and put your dirty clothes in it as you go. That's a bunch of stuff that is already packed for the move. Organize your clothes so that you are taking stuff out of suitcases in the order that you plan to wear them. I know this sounds anal but I have a list when I pack because I need SERIOUS help not to overpack.

It will be different going from a deluxe to a moderate but I didn't find the transportation from WL to be as easy as say, the CR or Beach Club so it shouldn't be too bad except for space.

Go, have fun and take the extra money and buy clothes so you can pack and re-pack less!

We have done this but did not pack properly - as noted by others make sure you pack efficiently

We have used luggage transfers by Disney before with no issues or trouble

Staying in two resorts makes it feel like two different holidays

i just did this in may, from akl to csr and it was great. it was my 1st solo trip so i think it was probably a lot easier than moving a whole family, but i had no problem at all. i had planned on taking a taxi but the cm at akl talked me into using bell services to take my luggage and i took a bus to ak and then from there to csr. i arrived before my luggage but within a couple hours my luggage had arrived and bell services brought it to my room. it was easy. i could have gone on to a park and enjoyed myself instead of waiting for my luggage but i had planned this as a relaxing day and sat by the lake enjoying a margarita instead there was no problem in locking my valuables in the safe at check-in so i was free to do whatever i wanted. i worried about going from a deluxe to moderate but love csr so much i found it was not a problem, the only thing i really noticed was the need for new carpeting at csr. every resort has it's unique "touch" i think you will enjoy having 2 holidays in one. enjoy
