Staying at Universal?????

You can check in on the morning you're staying there, that's what I've always done. If your room isn't ready, they'll store your bags for you and give you your FOTL passes so you can go to the parks. :thumbsup2

cool thanks for that, havent even booked yet :rotfl2:
just everyones asking similar questions to things ive thought of. so im getting my info now and writing it down in a notebook. :)

I worked out that it's costing us approx. £60 each for every night at SSR- this includes the accommodation, food and park tickets. Universal isn't as good value, obviously, but I'm trying not to focus on that!

Did you enjoy RPR? :)

Our OKW 21 nights with food and park tickets for 7 of us in a 2 bedroom works out at £38.00 per person per night - i think thats a bargain :thumbsup2

7 Flights in August - not so much of a bargain :rotfl2:

We stayed at RPR last year and loved it, great hotel, nice boat ride to city walk for nighttime meal, and fotl passes, not a bargain like disney but still in our opinion well worth doing :thumbsup2

Never broke it down per person for value like that, cheaper for us having 3 in the room.
OKW/tix/food is costing us £45pppn
RPR £33pppn then renewing AP at £100pp for the year.

Not bad at all! ;)

I agree. It's a lovely hotel. :goodvibes I didn't want to stay in a Universal hotel again this year actually, it was DBF who kept asking if we could! :rotfl: The more I think about it, the more I want to do it.

We are hoping for a 3night stay at rpr this august before we move down to okw, but the prices are a bit high at the moment - but im sure we will give in and end up booking

If you have the cash to spare, go for it!

Never stayed at a Universal hotel myself but we are there for a week this spring :goodvibes We don't even do Disney; Universal blows WDW out of the water for us.

Depending on when you are going, you may not need a FOTL. We went last Easter and never needed one - we arrived at opening and stayed until about 1pm each day and never waited more than 20 minutes.

We are budget travellers though - we run on a budget of less than £100 a day ALL INCLUSIVE.

last two years we have stayed at RPR for 1 night. It works out cheaper for us than to pay 2 return taxi trips & purchase FP for three for both days. The FP are only for 1 go on each ride not like the FOTL passes which are for all rides all day. This year we are going to RPR for 2 nights, so not cheaper, but we like to do Universal in the middle of our holiday. It's worth it to us as we don't have to change resorts & can leave our things at SSR. You do get the FPTL passes for both days. Some check in as earlier as 7.30, you are given your key(FOTL) at check in & can leave your bags until your room is ready.

im glad you asked this question, were thinking of doing the same next August.
we plan to do Universal 1 day, eat at bubba gumps that day and go to the Blue man group show in the evening. then the next day we plan to go to IOA.
i suggested to my husband of staying overnight at a Universal hotel.
i know it means a paid for Disney hotel room is left empty but by the time weve added the cost of travel, time to travel and front of line passes. I think it will make those few days much easier for us.

I was just wondering how early can you check in? im not worried about the room being ready but was thinking about the passes.
Also we'll have a bag of toiletries and clothes-we plan to take the minimum but can we leave this anywhere? eg hotel? or do they have lockers in the park? i think i remember some but not sure. just wondering if theyll let us into the park with the razors etc

not sure what hotel we're going to stay at either. :goodvibes

That is exactly what I am thinking - although im stuck on wasting the money on the GF for one night against obvious benefits of staying at Universal. Arghhh!!! You could leave bag in car couldn't you?

yeah, we're probably staying at the contemporary so i know what you mean about paying for the room.
we dont drive so no car.

Im guessing the hotel will keep our bag after weve checked out too?

Hiya,

we've booked one night in RPr for October - it is purely to get the FOTL access for 2 days. We are staying in a villa and may or may not use the room depending on whether the kids are tired enough for us to be able to bear sleeping with them!!!!

This year I believe IOA is going to be soooooooooooooooooooo busy with the opening of the Harry Potter stuff - it will overspill to US too, so I think that FOTL will be well worth it - when folks see the HP lines, they will go off to the other attractions, so all of it will be busy. Anyone remember Alton Towers in the first months after Oblivion opened.., and that's a small town park by comparison.

And we are going in October - as is half of the UK if you look at flight prices! October being the time of witches/wizards/Halloween, may make it even busier....

Anyhow, to answer a question - we were told you can officially "check in" from 8 am, but that some guests arrive earlier and are not generally turned away - but the room will not be available til 4pm You will be given the key cards (FOTL) for all the party and can leave your luggage - it will be sent to your room when it is ready. p.s. if you have a car, parking charges are extra....
