Staying at Riverside : Show me pics, get me excited!!

We are staying for the first time at POR! We have booked a standard room but would really like to stay in the mansion area... Is this even possible? We will have 3 adults and 1 child. If not do all the AB rooms sleep 5?

Sure it's possible - standard rooms are in both the mansions and AB. Two of the buildings in the mansion side are strictly royal rooms, but since that's a separate booking category, you wouldn't be put in one of those, but that still leaves two buildings.

Would the child be sleeping in a bed with an adult or does he/she need a separate bed? The are 2 queens in the mansions. Alligator Bayou has the additional pull down Murphy bed.

You may be able to request a cot for the child if necessary? Someone else will have to confirm this though...

I have to say I think the AB section is our favorite resort....even better now than the Poly

Wow! Why? We love the Poly, but thinking of trying POR - preferred room (AB) this summer...

Sure, you are only a party of four so you could be located anywhere; rooms will have two queen beds. Put in a request for Mansions Buildings to help your chances. And yes, all of the AB rooms sleep up to five (except for the King Bed rooms which sleep up to three, and some Accessible rooms are max of four people).

Recent pictures of the AB rooms please? :-)

See http://www.portorleans.org/gallery-POR-AB-Rooms.php (note: bed covers are all-white now, with patterned bed runners/scarves at the bottom).

Are there pictures anywhere of the beds with the white covers and patterned bed runner/scarf at the bottom?

I see you just came back! How was it?? Did you spend all day at the parks or take breaks or what? Sorry, probably not the place for the questions on a pics thread so feel free to pm me. :-)

I loved it there! I really have nothing to compare it to as it was our first trip. We basically only were in the room to get ready in the morning then sleep at night. The room was rally quiet which was nice! The food court was really good too! Loved the create your own pasta station!

I was wondering if anyone could direct me to photos of Fulton's General Store? I was really looking for pictures of the food/grocery items they sell? If I can avoid brining it with me or having it shipped by Garden Grocer I'd rather pick it up there. I'm not looking for too much just breakfast items because we like to eat in the room as we're getting ready.

We just got back from POR and found the grocery selection to be really lacking. We did a Garden Grocer order but ran out of cereal and milk. Milk was no problem but the only cereal was those tiny boxes in a multi pack. If you REALLY don't care about breakfast items, I'd get them there but it would be much nicer to just get a Garden Grocer order than leave it up to chance.

We've stayed at DVC properties as well and found those to have much more in the way of regular groceries than POR did. In a pinch, you can find SOMETHING but it might not be what you were looking for.

That's rather the point, POR is a hotel whereas DVC is basically more like self-catering villas with kitchen facilities. The POR shop does sell basics and essentials, but it is not set up as a grocer to allow you to prepare meals in your room.

Can anyone help me understand how to use the Quick Service credit at the Rivermill for breakfast? We don't want to use our Table Service and was wondering what kind of food would be available. Trying to decide if it's worth using a QS or OOP. We have three kids and two adults. It can really be a toss up some mornings on whether they're hungry or not, so trying to see if there's a variety of breakfast foods or if it would be more continental breakfast style.

Thanks for your help!

Basically you just go up to any of the food counters and order a breakfast entrée, then get a drink from the chiller cabinet, then go to the cashier and use your MagicBand to deduct one Quick Service credit as payment. If you follow the rules, it really is as simple as that. You can see the menu choices at: http://www.portorleans.org/riversidemill.php

Where it gets complicated is if you try to mix and match a few 'snacky' items from the bakery, or a cereal bowl plus fruit, etc. You can't do that on a QS credit, as those would each count as one snack. That's a big failing of the system for real-world guests to be honest - you'd think you could select (say) three basic snack items and one drink and get them to process the lot through as one QS credit, but they can't do it.
