Staying at Riverside : Show me pics, get me excited!!

This thread is great. We are going to Disney for the 1st time in Sept and are staying at POR. We got a water view and requested a trundle bed. They said they can't guarantee them but the water views must have them too.

I would suggest changing your reservation from a water view to a non-water view. There is a pretty good cost difference, and to me, it is not worth the extra cost. All of the buildings are so beautiful and really all of the views are nice. And, you're far enough back from the river that it's not worth the extra cost, in my opinion. Our first time there, we had an interior courtyard area view. It was fabulous and our girls had the best time watching the bunnies hop around. Our last stay there, we were on the outside of the mansion we were in and the landscaping was just beautiful. I definately did not feel like I was missing out on anything by not asking for a water view.

We are a family of 5 that is staying at POR for the trundle bed. I was a little worried about the space and thinking that we should have gone for the ASMu suite but all these pictures make me realize that I have made the right decision. I am a little curious to hear other 5 member families have managed with little space. Our kids are 14, 12 & 7. This will be our first trip to WDW.

Keep the pictures coming!:rotfl:

I have a question for you that have stayed here before. Are there Counter/Quick Service locations at Riverside or French Quarter? We are planning on having an "off" day and just staying at the resort. We are using one of our table services to eat a late breakfast at Boatwrights but I'm trying to figure out where we will eat later on without leaving the resort.

Thanks!

Both resorts have counter service. I prefer POR's food court, but both are good.

I was excited about going anyway and now I'm even more excited after looking at the pictures :rotfl: Dont know how I'm going to get to February, it seems along time off :lmao:

Nancy - We stayed at Port Orleans Riverside last year as a family of five for 13 nights. My kids were 14, 11 and 8 at the time. We fit just fine, I seem to remember everyone fighting for the trundle bed. We worked it out so that the kids rotated who slept in the trundle - we didn't realize how popular sleeping in the trundle would be. Even my BIG 14 year old son looked forward to his night on the trundle.

I'm not sure how neat you keep your rooms when you visit hotels, but I made sure all the luggage was under the table or next to the TV, the trundle pushed in when not using it, and clothing/snacks/toys put in the appropriate spot. This all helped to create a little bit more room for us. Having 2 sinks in the room helps in the mornings, also.

We really enjoyed Port Orleans - so much so that we are coming back for another 2 weeks this Summer - I know you'll love it.

One other thing - Don't miss Bob Jackson's show. He's in the Bar Area (River Roost?) several times a week playing piano - a very kid friendly show that we'll see a couple times while we are there. He's another reason we are heading back to Port Orleans...

POR has the best food court on Disney property, IMO! :thumbsup2

I am so excited... i just switched from POP to POR and couldnt be more excited. I requested Aligator Bouye, but really I would be happy anywhere. My wife thinks we are staying at POP, but little does she know... I cant wait

I am wondering if anyone has used a pack n play here? we are a family of 6, one that will be using the pack n play. we will also be using the trundle bed. while looking at the pics i am not sure where there will be room to put the pack n play. any ideas? i know it will be a little cramped but we will be ok. we stayed at pop in one room before we had the last baby. :rotfl:

Getting very excited now!!!!

Thanks for the pics.

the only place i can think of for a pack and play is in the area of the sinks, as long as it's folded up during the day, you should be okay to maneuver around it during the night. there is an area under where clothing gets hung up. if you put the one end of the pack and play against that wall, you should be fine to use the one sink and get to the bathroom even with it open.

You can fit one of the Disney-supplied ones in the area between the beds and the wall, next to the door. The same place that the trundle bed slides out in the AB rooms.

Thank you! Im sure we will manage. might have to do a little rearranging =) I am excited to stay here, my older kids will love the slide. We usually stay at pop so this will be a completely different experience!

Has anyone ever brought a toaster with them? Are you allowed to do that?

We brought a toaster, purchased from garden grocer, and ate all our breakfasts in the room. Even though we were on the dining plan, it worked out very well to not have any food out of pocket. On our first day, mousekeeping unplugged it, but nothing was ever said, and I didn't leave it plugged in for the rest of the trip. We will be doing it again in july in 92 days
