How do you reserve?? Also would love more info on dive in movies? Also, how do you make ressie for meals?? Would love to do Mythos, and any other suggestions for not to miss meals?? :confused3 Also where to grab something quick and easy for breakfast?? And, any tips for a great trip for a 11 year old would be appreciated! Also would love some pics!:goodvibes Thanks!!

First congrats and welcome to the darkside and while I have never stayed at HRH but you can either call the hotel and reserve a cabana or when you check in you can reserve it and not too sure about dive inn movies and wondering about that myself and you can wait till you get there cause its not like disney where you have to make a ressie a 180 days in advance and Mythos is a not to miss and places on citywalk such as margaritaville but as far as breakfast maybe others on here can give you a little more info and far as you 11 year old goes he will love it all and staying onsite gets you unlimited express for every ride and if he finds something he likes he will be able to ride it several times and hope you have a great time and we will also be there in july

I love HRH! Cabanas can be rented by calling the hotel. The number is (407) 503–2236. We didn't do a dive in movie because we were always too tired at the end of the day. You don't need to worry about reservations at Universal as much as you do at Disney. You can get breakfast at The Kitchen, which is one of the HRH restaurants. They serve a buffet for breakfast, so you can go as fast or as slow as you want. Or there are a few places close to the entrance of IoA like the bakery right next to Confisco Grille. CG also has a buffet character breakfast with Spiderman, but your son may be too old to like that. If you want to eat fast things on your way to the parks, you can buy stuff like yogurt, muffins and granola bars at Emack and Bolio's on the ground level of HRH. Also, the dinner menu at The Kitchen and The Palm (both at HRH) are really good. The steak and lobster at the Palm were incredible, and everything we had at the Kitchen was really great, too. With a two year old, we jsut didn't have much motivation or energy left to try City Walk restaurants. Sorry I can't be of more help there. We ended up eating dinner at the Kitchen three nights because it was really good and really close to our room at the end of long days. Here's a link to a page with many of the Universal/IoA menus. http://allearsnet.com/uni/menu/menus.htm

With your room key, you get priority seating even without a reservation at the park restaurants, so you can be pretty flexible about deciding on a meal spontaneously. I don't know how well that applies during peak season, but I've heard that even then you never wait for more than fifteen minutes or so for a table. There's a string on the Universal/IoA board that shows pictures of people's meals that might be helpful in deciding. You can make reservations for Mythos at the IoA park entrance at guest services.

A lot of your questions can be answered on the FAQ's on the main Universal board, or on the Universal website.

Good luck planning, and have fun!

Never claimed to be a writer and just trying to help and if my sentences run-on OH WELL :snooty:

At first we thought disney Hotels looked like a great option as we have a 5 year old

but after some real research and reading reviews we have decided to do the Hard Rock Hotel next July for 16 nights.

It just looks so cool!!!!!:cool1:

We will ofcourse do Disney but the lure of Spiderman proved too much for young William lol

You'll be glad you did! We stayed onsite at the premium Disney hotels a few times. Then we stayed at HRH and were really amazed at what we'd been missing out on. I can't wait to go back in January!

We recently stayed for one week at AKL followed by one week at HRH. I read up on here and was looking forward to both Hotels and both were unique and beautiful. However, I much preferred AKL for several reasons;
  • Service was so much better
  • Refillable drink mugs at $12 each per week at AKL compared with $6 per bottle of water at HRH
  • We had to pay to park our car at HRH - we only found out when we checked out
  • Food at the Kitchen was not to our taste and the self service at Starbucks was chaos compared with Mara at AKL
I'm not saying we had a bad time at HRH, it was still fun but AKL was more relaxing and geared up for families. My kids are 13 and 11 and both said AKL seemed more friendly and the food was nicer.

It's the reviews of the Disney hotels that have put me off - some of the pictures on review sites are scary-the mould, dirt, etc didn't like it!!

just want clean!!! good service and a great location for getting around

The Hard Rock appears to have it!!!:woohoo:

::yes:: We have stayed @ WDW deluxe resorts also. They are nice. But US resorts seem to take it 2 a another level. I guess its the conveniance factor,I don't know but you will see the diff.:thumbsup2

I like this Darkside slang.:darth: "Luke Metro is the Sith Lord".
:thumbsup2 (just kidding Metro you have the answers to almost everything.H-man you saved me a few hundred bucks on that AP thing yesterday.Thank you again:worship: ).

the concerige will make ressies for you, or there is a kiosk just at the Endangered Species shop at Citywalk if you want to make your own, there also is one in IOA for reservations .
Not sure about what days the HRH movies are on, but they should have a programme for the week with all the details.
Have stayed at RPR and PBH so cannot help with where to get a quick bite in the morning , but at Citywalk pastamore has a counterservice part where people on here recommend for breakfast.

My first visit i did a split stay between Universal and Disney moderate, and have stayed at Universal since that, while Disney had transport to parks laid on , and the refillable mugs where good , what you get at Universal hotels for the price is a far superior resort, plus the express pass and the restaurants and bars only a few minutes walk. and the Loews first makes the stay even better, as we get a free suite upgrade.
if we decide to go to Disney this year we will drive down to the park ,but will always return to our resort at Universal.

We stayed at HRH last August just for 1 night & my 2 teenagers loved it.

The pool movies were advertised for a Friday but there was one on when we were there so I think they put extra on in high season.

We ate lunch at Mythos & just turned up as they were opening & got straight in. Had a great meal brilliant food you forget you are in a theme park

i have never been charged $6 for a bottle of water.
are you talking about that humungus water bottle Fiji that is in the room with the fridge?

you could have gone downstairs and bought it much cheaper.

when you check in, it is listed the the papers of the parking fee

i do both parks.
i have just the opposite opinions of what you listed.

when i stay on site at hrh, i don't have to do comando style park touring.
the fotl is so sweet.......

everyone likes something different. that is never a problem, we enjoy all opinions here.

glad you enjoyed your vacay!
