Greetings. Was reading the thread for October, and could've sworn people were talking about purchasing short stays at the new Grand Californian Villas without actually buying into the timeshares. Is this possible? Any estimates on cost or how to go about doing this? I'd love to stay on site just once.. but don't have the $$$ disney says you need to buy into them.

Thanks!

You can rent points from a DVC member(owner). Actually, you would be renting a reservation. A DVC member will charge a certain dollar amount per point to determine the rental price for the renter. Points are determined by the unit size, the days of the week and time of the year when traveling. Once a price and contract are set, the DVC member will make the reservation in your name. You can check out the DVC Rent/Trade forum here at DISboards to learn more and check it out.

You can also make a reservation through Disney to book a room at the Villas of the Grand Californian. You would paying Disney's rack rate.

I looked into getting a DVC studio for the week I will be at DLR. I am considering buying into DVC and wanted to stay there to see how I liked the location.

There was no availabilty for the week I will be there, but I did ask what the rate was. It was between $450 and $500 a night for the studio.

I tried renting a room from a DVC member so I could get a feel of ownership. As you can from my sig I now own at two resorts. It was a good experience for me to rent and helped in my decision to buy. If you rent from a DVC member the cost for that same studio would be a lot less. Depending on the time of the year and the cost per point, it could be as much as half the room rate through Disney.

Pm me to find out more or take a look at the Rent/Trade forum.
