Staying at BWI needing hopping advice

In the good old days when I would stay at the Epcot resort I would typically start my day at Epcot and use non-bus Disney transportation to get around to other resorts, MK and DHS. I know this has to have been asked before but I can’t find it. Staying in BWI later this month with not much planning time. How does park reservations affect the ability to get around like this?

You only need a reservation for your first park of the day. Once it’s 2, you can hop to any park so long as you’ve tapped in at the park you have a reservation for.

so it’s a no go to walk thru Epcot in the morning to hop the monorail to MK? :/ That’s a game changer for sure!

Nope, can't do that unfortunately. My husband insisted there MUST be a way to walk AROUND Epcot to get to the monorail in the front during our September Boardwalk 2021 trip. Nope! lol

While the buses are not always fun, we've never had any major issues from BW to MK via bus. We also on occasion will do a minnie van, which is way more convenient than the monorail and tbh even the buses are when you factor walk time to the front of the park to catch the monorail. However, back to your question, no, you can't start in a park that you didn't make a reservation for. Also do keep in mind that when you're in your park you reserved, there won't be any buses to other parks until 1:30pm'ish time to prep for 2pm hopping.

When we stay at BWI, we use the opposite of your strategy. We go to a park other than EP in the morning, take a mid day break, and then go to EP every evening for food, rides, strolling, etc. If at MK in the morning, we would take the monorail to EP and walk through to BWI. Won't be able to do that now unless it's after 2 pm.
