Staying at AKL-Transportation question

We are arriving in Orlando late (11:30 pm) the night of March 25th. We plan on going to HS the next day for rope drop, then maybe Downtown Disney later that day. On Tues., we have a 7:30 am reservation for Chef Mickeys, then MK. We leave Disney on Wed. morning to head for the beach. Do you think it would be easier if we rented a car then relying on Disney transportation? I would have been picking up a car anyways on Wed. the 28th back at the airport (husband flys in to meet us!). With our limited amount of time at Disney, I don't want to spend a lot of extra time waiting on busses! Please help me decide!! I have heard both sides: that the buses aren't bad from AKL and that it take awhile cause your further out than other resorts.

We stayed there in September and although I love love loved AKL I have to say I would be leary of trying to make it anywhere early in the morning. We found the buses took a long time to get anywhere. They weren't normally bad about getting to the hotel but it just seemed a long ride. If you like mornings you might be fine

Hi,
The first bus of the morning leaves the garage at 6:45am and gets to the AKL usually around 7:15 or so and will get you to a character breakfast at any PARK in plenty of time--the parks open early at 7:45 for the early dining and tour patrons.
However, the buses only go to the parks and downtown and since you are going to Chef Mickeys (at the Comtemporary) you will need to go to MK and transfer to the monorail or walk over to the hotel--about a 8-10 minute walk.
BUT, I have always found the AKL personnel more than helpful in arranging transportation for people who need transportation before or after the regular bus times. They have given me a taxi voucher on several occasions. Check with the concierge at the AKL to see if this can be arranged so you can get to Chef Mickeys on time. If the breakfast is anything like the dinner, you are in for a great time!!
