Has anyone stayed at the Ron Jon Cape Caribe Resort? Would love to hear your thoughts on it.

We were booked at the Radisson, but then I read on DCLTribute com how spectacular the Ron Jon resort was so I switched. Haven't cancelled Rad yet - first I wanted to hear from you folks if Ron Jon was as great as it sounds...

My rate was $145 at the Radisson. I got a studio at Ron Jon for $100.

And now Ron Jon allows visitors to park for free during the duration of the cruise. They don't have a free shuttle, but it's just $5A/$3C for their shuttle.

Sounds like quite a deal to me - being on the beach, spending my pre-cruise day relaxing at their amazing pool.

Tell me, is it too good to be true??

Thanks

There are pros and cons to the resort. One of our major problems has been fixed--you can't check in until 4PM, and they used to close the slide at 5, so you either had to stash your stuff in an unsecure luggage room or a locker by the pool (no locks provided) to use it, or have someone else watch the stuff. But now the slide and lazy river are open until 7, I've read, so I would wait until you stash your stuff in your room and then go use the pool.
We had 3 studios and not one was ready before 4. This caused some hardship for my dad who is used to having rooms ready before checkin time--he has a really bad back and had to lay down on a bench in the lobby. We couldn't even get one at 3:45--it was 4PM on the dot. So if you get in early don't expect to get in your room (unless someone else has different experience).
Some people have reported excessive noise between the studios and the 1BR units (just a connecting door between)--we didn't have that problem but it depends on who is next door!
No breakfast restaurant but you can buy pop tarts and cereal in the gift shop.
The pool/slide is awesome and the kids liked the game room too. I would stay there again but I don't think the others who traveled with us would--they like hotel amenities better than the timeshare route.

I would also like some information on Ron Jon's :wave2: !

Especially the pool hours. I had read they closed the slides & lazy river at 5:00pm (which seems early), but then someone posted they extended the hours.

What are the extended pool hours? Are they for summer only?

We will be there during Spring Break, so hopefully they have later pool hours  !

;) :D ,

check out tripadvisor.com. I've never stayed there, but there are reviews there, and I think I remember someone from the management posted a response to some bad reviews.

We loved Ron Jon's! We had a very large group booked for our night before our Wonder cruise at the Radisson, but then the 102 code came out so we switched. We were in a studio which was plenty big for our family DH, me and 2 BIG teen boys. Friends of ours stayed in a 2 bedroom and it was HUGE!!! We really enjoyed the resort, especially the lazy river, pool, slide and bar LOL! The Magic sailed right past us, so there was no need to leave the property for that AWESOME sight! Since it is so new, the resort is clean and colorful. We had no problem with noise, and we will definitely stay again for our next cruise ( 2 years :-( ) as long as the price is reasonable. :earsgirl:

Hi Cricket, Can you tell us if your reservation at Ron Jon is for 2004 or 2005? Did you use a code to get the $100 rate? Thanks!

Tink

I'm booked for January 2005 - studio (2 adults/1 child). I did not use a code.

My rate changed, however, when I realized that I'd booked it for a Thursday night when I needed a Friday. The Friday night rate is still only $130 - and remains cheaper than the Radisson's $145...

and is right on the beach...

FYI -
From what I was told a STUDIO is the size of a regular-sized hotel room, while the 1 and 2 bedrooms are enormous...

How far in advance will Ron Jon's except reservations? I tried for May 2005 and they say they have no rooms available. I'm just hoping it's too far ahead.

I just made my reservations today, so I don't know. I don't even know if late January is the "off" season there... Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Have you tried booking there through Priceline?

Maybe you can help me -
Where do you get the countdown timers??

Tera,

I'm sorry to say that several months ago, I booked for May 2005. We have a studio for the night before our cruise. I wish you luck!

Robin

Cricket 538--actually the studios are much larger than a typical hotel room, with a small living area, wall of kitchen cabinets, sink and a HUGE bathroom with a jacuzzi! The 2 bedroom is the size of an apartment! Have fun! :earsgirl:

Thanks Robin - I'll need to contact them directly. Hotels.com had no rooms available, but maybe it's too far ahead to book with them. Do you mind telling what kind of rate you got for the studio? I'm still trying to decide where we're going to stay and definitely looking for a good rate.

Hi Tera,

I booked directly (by phone) with Ron Jons. I got a studio with no discounts for $120.00. I tried all the codes posted here, but they said they expired or were invalid? Good luck!

Robin

We stayed in two 2 bedroom units in July & they are beautiful but just remember that they are time share units not a hotel. You need to strip the beds in the AM before leaving & they appear to be very firm about 10 AM check-out. They also inventory everything after you leave because there are cooking supplies ( dishes, pots & pans etc.) We were able to get our two units right next to each other on the first floor which was very convenient. We only stayed one night before the cruise & probably would stay again for a short term stay. Another thing to mention is the bedroom in the front in the 2 bedroom unit....it has a frosted glass window that has the hall light shining in so it looks like bright daylight all night long. We put up two large beach towels over the window to darken the room. Other than those few things, the place was great & fun to stay at..my brother-in-law cooked breakfast for us before leaving & the kids loved the waterslide & lazy river! have fun!! My parents discovered the place last February when my sister came down. They absolutely love the place, and my mom is the pickyest (I have no idea how to spell that one), person and hardest to please in a hotel. They are planning on going back when family comes down again this winter, hopefully I can get over there and join them.

We just stayed there on Aug 20th. We had a studio and paid $75 with a code but booked in the beginning of the year. We were able to check in at 12:30. We were surprised after hearing comments about the 4:00 check in. The bed and the pillows were too hard for me. Woke up with a stiff neck. And there was a lot of light coming in through the window at night. But the room itself was very nice. The pool area is great. But the ground is very, very hot to walk on without shoes. The slide and lazy river closed at 6:00 that night. The restaurant was very good. The kids loved the game room. The beach was nice too. The only thing we didn't like was being asked about the timeshare tour. We are DVC owners and weren't interested in buying into RonJon. The people were a little pushy. I think if the price was right that I would stay there again.

We stayed at the Ron Jon for two nights in a one-bedroom unit last May. We were ALMOST sad to leave it to go on the cruise. Yes, the kids and us adults enjoyed the resort that much.
