maybe I will inspire flames, but I am curious. people on this board are always up in arms stating that dvc'ers should "buy where they want to stay." well, I want to stay at SSR, so I bought at SSR. Many posts complain SSR is too condo like and too far away from the parks, so it's not a place they want to stay. But apparently it is a place they want to swim. I have read many posts about people wanting to pool hop to SSR.

well, I feel that why should those of us staying at SSR have to fight against non SSR guests for a space in the pool? SSR isn't good enough for them to stay as a guest, but they can come monopolize our pool?

just a thought?

The only resorts you need to "stay at" in order to use the pools are AK and BC/V. As a member you can enjoy any other pool you want (within the rules), including SSR and POLY and GF etc. Those guests may think the same thing as the OP but thats the way it is for now. SSR is new so a lot of folks may want to check out the pool, but I doubt its "monopolized" any more than VWL/POLY/BWV-weve all seen pictures and it aint no SAB, certainly nothing to go way out of the way for. For us pool hopping is usually just a break from a park during a hot summer day. If we are at BCV, and spend a whole day at MK-we may jump on the monorail to POLY or GF for a few hours from the 90 degree heat-then back to MK for the evening. If we are at VWL, we may do EPCOT in the AM-walk to BWV and swim/relax-then walk over to MGM for the evening. We would not pool hop somewhere thats not convenient.

I have never pool hopped, don't know if I ever would. I will swim at the pool provided. I guess staying at different resorts to try out the resort itself is much more fun than the pool.

I don't "get" pool hopping either personally-- I'd rather be in spitting distance of my room-- but my 8 year old sure does. She loves different theme pools and slides and likes the idea of being able to try others out when we're at a different resort. I think she'll be delighted that even though we are DVC now it doesn't mean she can't visit the Volcano pool. So we will be pool hopping, yes. Probably no more than once a vacation.

When our kids were younger, we pool hopped a couple of times... but we found it very inconvenient. I cannot even remember the last time we did it. The only "pool hopping" we are likely to do is to TL or BB :)

I kind of look at it as "swimming is swimming" and I would never leave the resort I am staying at just to swim at another.

Same here.

"Ree-owr"- saucer of milk, table 2!

I think its the truth. A lot of people see SAB as a "destination pool" Its described as a mini waterpark. I don't really like the pool (its cool, but too hard to watch kids at), but I have to admit that it is significantly different from every other pool on property and it was a very popular pool hopping destination for DVC members when it was available. People did go out of their way for SAB - and people still pay a lot of money per night and give the specific reason "SAB" for chosing Y&BC. There is nothing significantly different about the pools at SSR, BWV, VWL or OKW (unless you consider the zero entry at SSR to be worth a trip over - and you can get that at some of the non-DVC resorts we are permitted to hop to).

Now that pool hopping to SAB isn't available, and all the DVC pools have slides, I think very few people are going to go out of their way for a pool - the pool hopping perk is nice when the pool is "in your way." Which makes the MK resorts and the Boardwalk nice, because you can throw your suits in your daybag, and spend an hour in the pool at a nearby resort, then head back into the parks for the evening - taking your midday break without having to go all the way back to your own resort (assuming its pools and not naps you go for). SSR would be nice only if it was your midday break on your way to DTD. But I don't believe it is heavily used by people "pool touring."

I think this is one of the reasons we are unlikely to stray from the BW as our home though. Pool hopping is a nice perk, but it is nicer to grab a shower in your room and change in your room. And since we tend to be in Epcot in the eveing, the BW pool is really convienient for us all around.

We do go and do the obligatory sit by the pool and have a drink, but we never seem to get enough time to do that for longer than an hour. I guess we just love the parks so much, we can't stay out of them. And we have no kids! We call our DW vacations our walking marathons!
