Will be attending D23 Expo and Disneyland, so looking for a place as close to both as possible. Would prefer free breakfast & wifi, but not necessary.

I have seen the thread about hotels but most comments from 2004/2005.

These are some I have been looking at, please give your experiences and feel free to add some others.

Anabella Hotel

Desert Palms Hotel

Jolly Roger Hotel

Ramada Maingate

Portofino Inn & Suites

Fantasy Inn & Suites

TIA

It depends on when you go. I'm staying at HoJo on July 16th for $95 pre tax. They don't have free breakfast but they do have free wi-fi. There are places to grab breakfast along the way if you're walking to the parks. It's supposedly a very quick walk too.

Going in September, lots of hotel sites offering deals: stay for 3 save 20%, E-rates, etc

You may want to check out this thread on how to use Priceline to your advantage. People have reported getting nice rooms at the convention hotels by bidding 3.5* for around $50 a night. Some of them have have shuttles to DL or you could use ART or drive if you have a car.

I got a ridiculously good price at the Clarion a few weeks ago. It was $49 a night through Expedia. Breakfast wasn't included but free WiFi was. It was just one block down from the Portofino, so a bit of a walk but still manageable.

My friend and her family stayed at the Del Sol last July (on short notice), and it was well under $100 per night, PLUS it has the free breakfast too. It's not far from the gates of DLR, and it was clean and pretty basic and they were happy with it.

We will be at Portofino from 9/11-16. We got 5 nights for around $500 (w/tax) through Costco or GAT. The website rate is $99 (this is for a Kids Suite). Regular rooms are a lot less. Try Costco Travel if you are a member, otherwise check out getawaytoday.com. They have great deals too.

Hi--
I have the same date as you at HoJo, and I'm paying 120/night. Did you use a code? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

If you have booked at a regular rate, you can call in-house reservations and ask for the Disboard rate which is 15% off, or if you have an AP, you can get the rate of 20% off. They will be glad to change the rate for you.

I got HoJO for $75 a night during Labor Day for the marathon weekend with a link from Mary's site.

It does depend on when you go and what type of room you booked. Did you book a 2 Double bed room, a 2 Queen Bed room, a King room, a 2 Queen premium park facing room, or 2Q or K Freeway facing room? Did you use AP or Dis Board discounts? Did you book directly with the hotel or through an agent?

What is the difference between booking w/hotel or through agent?

What is the difference between booking w/hotel or through agent?

It's usually cheaper to book everything yourself: hotels, cars, airfare, DL tickets, than it is to get a package. (Not always, but more often than not, so you have to do your homework.) Even to book hotels, agents usually charge more per night or charge a service fee on top of what you would pay to stay at the hotel. For example, I recently booked through Hotels.com for a hotel stay. I went through them because the hotel price is refundable if I change my mind. They charged me an $11 service fee over and above what I would've paid if I just went through the hotel website directly. In that particular case, if I had booked directly through the hotel, the rates I was charged would've been cheaper but non-refundable. (Which is fine if you know you're not going to cancel. I wasn't sure and wanted to know that I had a room that was cancelable/refundable if needed.)
In the case of HOJO I called them (the hotel) directly and asked for specific discounted non published rates and I got it. On the website sometimes you can't get it or it doesn't show up and vice-versa, and if you call the corporate number you won't be able to get it. They'll say it's not available or they never heard of that rate, etc.
Many times, you'll get better price online because it saves the company money -- they won't need as much cust service staff manning phones, etc. Most airlines now will penalize you by charging service fees if you call and need to book or change existing ressies over the phone, and I believe based on my experience, that is the way all travel business is headed. Hojos is the opposite. We seem to do better by calling them directly. I think it's worth putting in a call and seeing if there are price differences. If it's cheaper by phone, book. If cheaper online go that route.
In the case of Priceline, well they want bodies in the rooms. So if hotels think they might not fill it, they release blocks of rooms to Priceline for people to bid on because they'd rather have some money than none coming in for that room.
HTH!

ETA: In short, hotels and Airlines used to pay commission to agents. Over the years the amount of commission has been chipped away to nothing. So, they've resorted to charging fees or higher prices for the rooms or airfare. That's why it's usually cheaper to book directly with the source. Also, it's supply and demand, that's why the bigger agencies like GAT and AAA can sometimes give better deals than booking direct. They block out x amount for a lower price than smaller agencies can block out at. And when that block starts filling up, they raise the room rates to make up some $$$. Then the great deal you found suddenly becomes not so great for the next guy that wants to book.

I already bought my own airfare and I am not doing a package because I will only be doing 1 day at DLR. Just need to book a hotel. I do my own research but for all my WDW packages and ADR's I have my TA take care of for me, and she doesn't charge me anything :thumbsup2

I will not book a hotel that I cannot cancel. Looking at Good Neighbor Hotels.

That's great about your agent!:thumbsup2 I wouldn't book a room I couldn't cancel either.:scared:
ETA: I should clarify. I wouldn't book a room I couldn't cancel, unless I knew for sure that I was going to be there and I got the room so cheap that the cost is negligible. (I.E. Priceline)

My friend & I have a room booked at the Desert Palms. There was an option on their website for a 30% of per night if you were booking 3 nights or more. Our reservaton is for 4 nights at a cost including taxes of $394.45 starting on 9/10. I've never stayed there before but it is on the same street as the Convention Center. There is a somewhat cheap hotel Alpine Inn on Katella also that I have stayed in before. Nothing fancy if you are just looking for a place to sleep. They serve prepackeged danish for their continental breakfast. It was clean but definitely only a 1 or 2 star IMO.

one of the old raddisson hotels was bought out and completely remodeled... might be worth a look. http://redlion.rdln.com/HotelLocator/HotelOverview.aspx?metaID=81

It's now The Red Lion.. and I've got a night booked for first weekend in may (doing a short run in -run out trip.. hooray!!!) and was able to secure what appears to be a comfy place to stay, 3 blocks to the park.. for only $90 after taxes and fees. the tripadvisor reviews post-remodel are very sharp.

We are going for Mothers day weekend. We have a room booked at the Holiday Inn hotel and suites. Its next to the Mickey and friends parking garage. Its walkable, and on the ART line if you dont want to walk. Has wifi, but not free breakfast. However, kids do eat free with an adult purchase. They just completed a huge remodel of the entire property. We got it for about $75 per night.

Ended up booking Portofino Inn & Suites, they don't offer free breakfast but Jolly Roger Cafe next door and IHOP right across the street. Will be able to walk to the Expo and the ART stop in only about 10 yards or so.

Were considering Desert Palms as well.

Thanks everyone :goodvibes
