We (DH, self & two nieces 5&7) are coming to Disney in May 08. Original reservation was for all 10 nights at SSR which is our home resort. We moved the first 5 nights of the reservation to Wilderness Lodge Villas, did this for its easy boat ride to MK. What we are trying to decide is where to stay the second half of our visit. Should we attempt to move to the rest of the nights to WLV, which is far from everything else? Should we stay at SSR? Should we try for BCV? All have pros and cons. Figured it could not hurt to ask some other opinions any advice would be great. Add’l info we have a car &we’re booking a 2 bedroom villa. princess: :confused3

If you are thinking about location....then try for an Epcot area for the other 1/2 of your trip. We did find, however, that WL worked well for MK and for Epcot (because the bus ride wasn't very long). Also, we could do the monorail if we were already at MK and wanted to go to Epcot. What I liked best was how quick the cab ride was if we were out late. For example, we went to the Poly for dinner and finished up aroudn 11 one night. We didn't want to do the monorail to the boat thing with two sleepy kids...so we hopped in a cab and 2 minutes and 5 dollars later we were back at WL. I also like the fact that the bus stop is so close to the villas.

Another consideration is your tolerance of packing and unpacking a second time. Personally, for our family we like to stay in one place the whole trip and not hop around. For my family of 4 it takes me about 2 hours to pack & unpack everything if I do it quickly. I just don't like to waste time doing that on vacation. Also, to me Disney is a very go-go type trip so, I don't feel you have enough leisure time to deal with luggage. If I take a down day from the parks, I'd rather go shopping at DTD or visit the waterparks than deal with luggage. Finally, we do a lot of 10 days trips and I always have these great plans laid out to do things in certain order. But things happen like the weather, preferences, we are too tired, etc... and you don't always do what you want when you want. So, if that happened to you and the day you need to move might be the day you really wanted to go to MK one more time because you missed it the day before because of bad weather, then, you are SOS.

Well... I better stop rambling... I'd definitely do what you think is best for you and your family.

I think the kids are going to love the VWL and you are going to be thrilled to be able to stay in one place once to get there so if it were me, I would try to get the rest of the days with the first ressie. The kids aren't going to be saying mid-week, "gee I wish we could move!" They are going to be loving the boat ride and the pool. You can always take the boat to the contemporary and hop the monorail over from there to the ticket and transportation center and get to the parks. If you can't change your ressie to the VWL, shoot for the Beach Club, great pool, you can walk into Epcot and walk to MGM-that walk takes about 15-20 minutes. But really, staying in one place is easy and the Lodge is very cool. Have a great trip!!

I actually think you might like a change of pace after 5 days in one resort. You will have to plan for a good part of the day not having your room, but you can check in real early since you'll already be at WDW. I would pick either BWV or BCV....(partial to BWV). Very convienent to 2 parks, lots of places to eat, and mini golf is right around the corner.:goodvibes

I think 5 days is a great time to try another resort, one of the Boardwalk resorts is a good choice. There is so much to do over on the Boardwalk. You can walk to two parks. You can't go wrong with VWL, BCV or BWV's.

Should we attempt to move to the rest of the nights to WLV, which is far from everything else?
You will spend more time packing/unpacking than whatever extra transportation time you are imagining you'll incur by staying at VWL.

If you want to move and experience another DVC resort, that is fine. But I wouldn't do it to get "closer to everything else" unless you want to go to BWV or BCV and spend a lot of time at EPCOT and MGM for those days.

Just my opinion. We don't like to move once we get there since we drive and tend to overpack a bit! :rolleyes1

We just spent 7 nights at the Boardwalk and 6 nights at VWL.

I didn't find the packing and the moving a problem, I packed late at night after we got back the park, so it wasn't really time that I would be using for anything else.
We had Bell Services move our bags, and being 'roomless' wasn't an issue.

However, I will say I didn't particularly care for VWL and much preferred my time at the Boardwalk - when we go again we will stay there for the full trip, not because of hte moving just because it suited us more

Well I called back and moved all the days to VWL. After all the input and much discussion DH agreed with most of you about
the time spent packing up (us and 2 little girls),
tossing our refrigerated products,
moving,
and being room less for a day
would be much more a pain in the rear then staying at VWL and commuting to the other parks.
We have a car so we should be quicker then taking the bus and we can use the monorail to our benefit to get over to Epcot if need be.
We thank you all again for all your input.
