stay at resort for marathon?

My husband and I will be at WDW for the marathon in Jan and wonder if we should stay at a resort. We have been to WDW many times and thought we might try to do some other vacation sites. Is it crazy getting on the park grounds that day? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

I strongly advise staying on property if you plan on visiting and arriving before noon on Marathon Day.

I would definately say stay at a WDW resort-- especially if you're running. WDW offers shuttles to the start (and with a 6AM start, that's awfully nice). I'm running this fall and staying (I think) at Pop Century. In 2001, the All Stars had a LOT of runners- made for a very festive atmosphere.
