We are considering taking our first trip to Disneyland in September of this year. It isn't set in stone, but we have just begun looking at hotel options. Right now the three we like the best are Paradise Pier, Fairfield Inn, and Tropicana Inn. Based on experience, is there anyone who can convince me to stay at one versus the others?

Here are the prices for our dates with 3-day park tickets and Park Hopper:
  • Paradise Pier (Standard with King bed)-$2,243.84
  • Fairfield Inn (King Suite with Premium View)-$1,490.87 (roughly includes parking fee)
  • Tropicana Inn (Standard with 2 Queens)-$1,475.15 (doesn't include parking fee, couldn't find the price)
All of these prices are through Disney so we may be able to get cheaper prices through someone else. I haven't looked that far yet.

Also, feel free to convince me to stay at one of the other Disney hotels lol

I have stayed at paradise pier, but not the other 2. I would choose Tropicana based on price and location.

try viewing thru the HOJO cam on what a premium view at FI will look like.......I don't think its very premium....and the cam is computerized....

PP has great EE opportunities and being that you are only three days, those mornings will be of great value......and you get to walk thru all the construction zones. And it could be hot, so a pool would be relaxing

How do I like through the cam?
Will there still be a lot construction in September? I thought a lot of things were opening in the summer.

watch the disneyland hojo cam, that is your premium view, and the cam is edited, so view is not as premium as cam shows.

research the new 4 star hotel being built at Disneyland DTD

Will you be using the EE’s? If so, I say Paradise Pier. If not, go for the Tropicana. It is super close to the parks. And it’s clean.

Also I would probably try and book direct with them if you go that route

Isn’t that from the Howard Johnson though? How close is Fairfield to that?

Will the construction be distracting? We could wait until feb-March 2019 to go.

I would like to use the ee. I’m just trying to decide if we want to spend the extra money for it.

My first choice is PPH and second choice is Tropicana. Fairfield is too far a walk for me.

You'd do best price wise to book each trip detail on your own.
If you book PPH now watch for Disney to roll out a Special Promotion that will include September. They had one in 2017 so I'm expecting one again for 2018.

If the rate for PPH goes down you can call and have the rate adjusted. You'll need to do it as early as possible when the special comes. There are a set number of rooms at the special rate and once they're gone that's it.

Okay thanks! That’s good information. We won’t know for sure if we can go until like May. Have you stayed at either of the other disney hotels?

So after reading through my unofficial guide to Disneyland book (that I just got today) it looks like Camelot, Park vue, and best western plus Anaheim inn might be good options. Any thoughts on these?

First thing - do NOT buy a package through Disney unless you are staying on site - there is absolutely no benefit to doing so - if you do not stay onsite then buy your tickets and hotel somewhere else and you'll likely save a bit of $.

Will you use the EMH - if you will be there for it every day and make the most of that extra hour? If not, then stay off site - if you will use your extra magic hour than that is something to consider. If you are only staying a few nights and you know you will use the EMH then I'd say there is value to staying onsite but do not expect it to be a shorter walk from the Paradise Pier from the other two options.

google earth Disneyland.. those two big white circles to your right , in Disneyland, that is your premium view, standing outside overlooking the high balcony, though most of the magic is lost because you are looking over one long large parking lot.

find the lego store, major construction to the west of the lego store. to your right is the pretzel store and build a bear, that new area will be finishing construction, perhaps....my point for your choice, is that for 2018, there is not much a magic disney bubble for any of the three Disneyland lodging onsite choices...it will be noise construction, tight walkways and lost folks looking for past memories ...."what happened to ????".....all removed for a galaxy far , far away

I've stayed at all three of the Disney Hotels.
While they each have their own flare. I base my booking decision on price and who will be traveling with me.

I agree to not booking a package through any company. Booking room only gives you the option of canceling without being charge a penalty. Be sure to know the timing cancellation specifics.

I could see us using the emh every morning. It’s just dh and I so we are willing to walk. I don’t know if the cost at DH and DGC are worth it. Since I’ve never been there I don’t really know.

Oh okay. I was hoping it would be better to go before the Star Wars land opened.

It will be dh and I. We normally get a moderate at Disney world and they are cheaper than paradise pier. I just don’t know if I can justify the price because I don’t know if the benefits outweigh the price.

I've never been to WDW so I don't know there room grades/types.

The only real perk of PPH in my opinion is (EE) Early Entry. My trips are usually during shorter park hours. EE is nice when the park hours are 10am to 8pm.

The walk from the Tropicana will be easier than PPH.
We had a third floor room on the south side and could see the fireworks from our room at the Tropicana.

They have values, moderates, and deluxe resort categories. The moderates we’ve stayed at were around $200-250/night. We even managed to stay at the animal kingdom lodge (deluxe) for under $300/night lasts March.

That’s cool that you could see fireworks from the Tropicana! Are the rooms there pretty nice?
