We have camped in tents our last two Disney trips. But then again we are big on camping and hiking. We moved to the WL on our last trip for three nights and this trip we will be at WL for eight nights. I ALWAYS camp with my Aero bed and down pillow. The Aero bed is more comffy than the beds at WL. We don't spend much time at the resort so we always spent our money on meal plans. The new meal plan is half the price of the old one. DH always jokes how we sleep in a tent, then eat our way like kings through Disney. We do this in August when it's good and hot. We take a frigde for drinks and a fan to cool the tent off at night. The only draw back is you can't really go back to your resort for a nap in the afternoon. WAYYYY to hot. We go to town hall and nap in front of the old MM cartoons. :cheer2: :yay: :Pinkbounc :cool1: :rotfl2:  :bounce: :yay: :woohoo: :wizard:

I agree! If you're going to post here on the Camping board, do not put everybody else down. If you like staying at the WL, then feel free to post nice things about it on the Resorts board. But, do not come here and slam everyone else for doing something they enjoy.

My family has been camping at Fort Wilderness for 20 years, and we still love it! It's a wonderful, peaceful, restful place to come "home" to after a busy day at the parks! The amenities are great, and the people are nice! There's lots of room for the kids to run around and play without having to worry about hallways, and bothering the people in the room next to us.

We have also stayed at many of the Disney resorts, but FW remains our favorite!

Fort Wilderness is a resort!! I say mind your own! You are on the wrong board for those comments!

Tenters are a special group, Probably the most resourceful of all campers.
I have seen some very innovative arrangements at FW and other campgrounds.
When I was a kid we used to camp out in our backyard and the neighbors for half the summer. My kids would rather sleep in their tent or the back of my truck during the summer. :lmao:

The Fort is so special that I don't care where we sleep: popup, tent, truck, travel trailer, or the cabins. We've done it all (AND stayed at the Wilderness Lodge) and nothing beats the Fort. If it had to be a tent, that would be fine just so long as I'm at Ft. Wilderness!

I agree!! I love Ft. Wilderness!! I will always be a tent camper!! I can still travel in a regular truck tent camping and even fly and tent camp!! My tent and rainfly has more square footage that most hotel rooms and more room than some campers!! I have a very comfortable bed, the laundry location is more convenient than the hotels. The comfort stations are the best. After what I saw happen to somebody's travel trailer on I-75 on Sunday, that confirms me even further that I don't want to ever tow a big travel trailer.

So a tent camper I will always be!!!!!

Most people that camp wouldn't have it any other way, it a real enjoyment for them, my kids are all grown now and you just mention a good time in their lifes, and they will pop out with a story about camping, to our family , camping is good times ,to each it's own. They like hot dogs instead of steak too ( boy did I do a good job with these kids ). :lmao:

Just because my house is quiet at the moment and I have nothing else to do, I will reply to this thread. I don't tent camp. My fifth wheel has all the comforts of home, MY HOME! I don't put my head down on a pillow or cover up at night with a blanket that millions of others have used. If I want a midnight snack, I can go in my kitchen to whip something up (in my pj's). If my kids want to stay up all night playing a board game, I don't have to worry about them waking up the people next door. I have not done FW in a tent since I was a kid, but, let's face it, kid's don't care where they sleep, they are in Disney! I have done 9 kids and 2 adults in a pop up plenty of times, myself being one of the adults. I will take my camper and stay 8 weeks in the summer and not have to worry about what I would be paying to stay that long at another resort. I really want to know, when everyone is at one of the parks at the same time, how do you know which one of us came from the campground? I am pretty sure we all look like "resort" guest, but maybe I am wrong? :confused3

ok, off my soap box. sorry I took the bait :teeth:

I just got back from FW. We stayed in a cabin. My first time since I was a kid (maybe 12) staying at FW.

I must admit. I would not like to stay in a tent. But I saw plenty of them and quite a few pop ups. My middle DS loves RVs and was impressed with the size of them. I was tempted to ask a few if we could go in one but thought that might be rude.

I love the fact that you campers can do that. Camping is not my thing but if it yours then DW is a great place to camp.

BTW, I love the way some of you have decorated your sites. My kids loved to see the lights and Mickey Ears high in the one tree. Also the Valentines display at one site was great.

It was a very laid back feeling. We loved the Mariana area and rented a boat, saw the horses and went to the Camp Fire. We watched Wishes from the Beach that was great.

I am glad DW has something for everyone.

I never mind if people want to look in our RV... especially if you ask nicely! I remeber how impressed I was with them before we bought one!

We have stayed at most levels of resorts in WDW. And if you ask my now adult children their favorite resort the answer is Ft W! Youngest (17) is spoiled -- he likes Storm-a-long Bay, but loved driving around in a golf cart with another teen at Ft W. There is something magical about camping here. We have been in the old Fleetwood trailers (our first trip in 88), camped in tents and pop-up, and also stayed in the newer cabins. We'll be back, I know that -- probably after I get the AC added to the AC ready pop-up. That'll enable me to take those necessary afternoon naps ;)

Gotta wonder why someone would post in the camping thread if they didn't care to camp. Just to be annoying? :confused3 It really just shows the ignorance of some poeple. I do not tent camp. We have a travel trailer. I would LOVE to be able to bring it to FW and can't wait for the day when we have the opportunity to do so. I have stayed at the WL many..many times. We stayed there for it's opening..and it's been our resort of choice since. We've also stayed at the Beach Club and the Poly. We always take rent bikes and go over to the campground when we stay at the Lodge. FW is such a laid back beautiful spot. We stayed in the cabins...then trailers many years ago. It's people that look their nose down at campers that really ticks me off. :furious: Most of us don't camp to save money..it's a lifestyle choice. We like it and enjoy it. For what some of us are paying for our rigs we could easily stay in a Deluxe Resort. As for tent campers..I imagine it's much the same thing..it's something you enjoy...it's not a choice between a hotel and camping...especially since FW is like no other campground. :thumbsup2

I Love camping it is like having the comfort of home, away from home... and I have stayed at the Wilderness Lodge and those beds are so hard I could not sleep... :confused3 the beds at the Grand Floridan are much nicer and so are the ones at the All Star Music... But I do visit the lodge everytime I go to the Disney... I think it is beautiful, enjoy sitting in the rocking chairs , but for me and my family the vote goes to Ft. Wilderness... :cheer2:
8 weeks and we will be in Ft. Wilderness, time is getting close :hourglass

Well, we camp because it makes us happy. 31 feet of fifth wheel, slides, recliners, GREAT bed, my own kitchen and noone else's germs makes me happy. If room service and not having to be responsible for your room makes YOU happy, then that makes me happy for you. BUT, the answer is, people vacation how they do b/c it's a personal choice. :goodvibes By the way, should YOU need nice clean towels, my fifth wheel always carries about 30 of them, plus good homecooked food and if you asked real nice, some southern stand your spoon in it sweet tea! :thumbsup2

That sounds like an invitation for some southern hospitality and tea
Can I get mine with equal in it ?

We love camping at FW! Even 7 1/2 months pregnant in June! Will be headed back in March with a six month old! This poster is obviously crazy! By the way, I am an Alabama girl, so i would love some sweet tea! It's hard to find in Sunny South Florida! :teeth:

I wish I had some sweet tea right now! :drinking1 I have to drive all the way to Tennessee to find good sweet tea! :car: If you ask for it here, they look at you like you are a nut!
