Have decided to treat myself to a 13 day solo trip to WDW next year for my birthday, but can't decide if I want to stay the entire trip at either Port Orleans French Quarter or Wilderness Lodge or split my stay between the two resorts. What would you do & why?

Even when we stay for just a week, we always split our stay. It is like a whole new vacation. When I told DS that I was hoping to stay put at just one resort for our trip next year, his response was "Why? That would be boring!".

We have only odne this one time....stayed on property but we did split the time.
Other vacations we usually split between 2 nice hotels.

Just to see and experince different things..........
And if you are going to be there that long it woudl be worth it.

HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!!!!!!!

With my kids, the last thing I want to do on vacation is pack and unpack an extra time.

As a solo traveler, I might consider it.

For me, I'm traveling with my wife and 3 kids (14, 9, and 1), so a split stay is a little too much trouble.

I voted for a WL only stay because I just couldn't see myself, or anyone for that matter, splitting a stay between a moderate and a deluxe unless money was an issue. You may be setting yourself up for disappointment LOL. Now if you were doing a split stay between two deluxes or two moderates, then I'd say definitely do the split stay. But if money is not an issue, and the choice is a split stay between a moderate and a deluxe or just a deluxe, I'd say enjoy the Deluxe and forget the moderate.

We've dont split stays the last few years but I dont think I will next time. While its nice to see different resorts(or save money) I think it makes our vacation seem much shorter.

I voted for split stay. We have done this 3 times and enjoyed seeing more then one resort per visit. Just make sure you do the moderate resort before the deluxe so you have something to look forward to when you are packing up to move.

If I were treating myself to a solo trip (is it wrong to be jealous of your trip?!?!?) I'd probably do a split stay and stay at the moderate first. Both POFQ and WL are great resorts and even though I   WL it would be nice to mix it up some. But again, I'd have to make sure POFQ was first. ;)

I just got an e-mail from my AAA TA. He says that the only AAA discount at the Wilderness Lodge is for Courtyard view rooms (was looking for a woods view, less expensive). Is this correct?

The savings between staying at the WL for 13 days versus splitting the stay between POFQ & WL is $606.03. That's a pretty big amount. Where I'm going solo, it's not that big of a dealing changing resorts.

I would definitely do POFQ first, then WL second. I've stayed at both and really enjoyed both.

I voted it turns out with the majority - 5 days at POFQ and 8 at WL.

Here's my reasoning:

POFQ will save you a little money, so that's good, and it has the boat to Downtown Disney. Be sure and visit Downtown Disney while you have this lovely mode of transportation at hand. Also you can walk over to PORiverside, and enjoy a meal at the quite good for the money Boatwright's Dining Hall, and check out the new marshmallow roast & outdoor movie on Ol' Man Island if you like!

Then, move to WL because it's fabulous. There's SO much here for a single traveler to enjoy, I'd rent a bicycle and go over to Ft. Wilderness and ride around, for example. Be sure and sign up for the tour Stan gives of the lodge! The boats to and from the MK and the surrounding resorts are a relaxing way to kill time on a long trip and get off your feet.

Anyways, that's my five cents on the subject. Have an awesome time!

Since it will be just you, I would do the split stay and enjoy the resorts for what they both have to offer.

I booked a woods view room with AAA discount at WL for our upcoming August trip.

We are actually splitting our stay with 4 nights POFQ and 7 nights WL:). This is partly to save money, and partly because we've done splits before and like the "2 resorts in one trip" experience. We do have kids, but we also always have a rental car, so moving really isn't that big a deal. Just pack all of your POFQ stuff in one bag and the WL stuff in another. Then you only have to repack one bag for the move:).

Call me crazy, but since you have 13 days, I'd throw in an Epcot resort too. Nothing beats being able to walk to/from Epcot !! And since you're solo, switching twice wouldn't be that big a deal.

Thanks everyone for your votes & posts. I am leaning towards the split stay, especially for the cost. This would be a complete package to include the room, tickets & dining (can't decide between regular dining or deluxe dining). Will try another AAA office to see if they only get a discount on courtyard views with a package.

While not a big POFQ fan, I would do a split stay, as I would get bored for that long at the same resort. We have split stays before, while it is more cumbersome with young kids, your on your own so I would definitely split your stay! I agree with everyone else do the moderate first then deluxe.
I would stay at POR or CBR though.

Thanks for your post. Have tried POR & CBR and really disliked both (wanted to check out of CBR the same day I checked in).

Have decided to do the split stay between Port Orleans French Quarter & the Wilderness Lodge. Will do 4 nights at Port Orleans French Quarter, then 8 nights at the Wilderness Lodge. If I did the Wilderness Lodge for the entire stay, I would need to cut the trip to 10 days, as 13 days would just be too much $$$.

Thanks again everyone!!
