Staunton, VA.... for just one night?

We are probably gonna use Staunton as a stop-over on the way to Charlotte. we'll be there Thursday night IF that is where we stop. It will be just my wife and my almost 5 year olds.

We should get there around 4 - 5 PM........ Anything to see or do? How about a decent restaurant thatis kid friendly?

I used to live there many years ago and unless things have changed, all the touristy stuff closes pretty early. It's a rather slow town, but a good stop for the 81/64 interchange. Plenty of decent restaurants available now (used to have to drive to Charlottesville), but they are spread out.

If you go through there early enough you may have time to check out Luray Caverns, which is not that far from Staunton in New Market just off of I81. It is a very nice touristy place and a really good cavern, but I'm not sure when it closes...
