I've been thinking about you! I spoke with my daughter today (several times) and she says the roads she can see are at least sort of plowed. And National Airport is going to try to open tomorrow early morning. Having said that, however, I wouldn't be overly hopeful about them getting out tomorrow. Planes are not in place, and north of us is getting hit really hard by snow now.
We're in the same boat, and we're local. At last measure, we have 24 inches of snow on our deck! We live on a double cul-de-sac at the very back of a neighborhood and are always the last to see a snow plow. Our neighbor tried to get out in his SUV and couldn't clear the snow in the road, so we have no reason to think that any of our 4 wheel drive vehicles can make it out. So she may be stuck too! Our latest plan is for me to try to get to a subway stop tomorrow and then call her to leave if I can make it. I'm certainly not having her start out before I know I can get her.
As I was talking to Rachel last night she was laughing at the antics of your group. They were apparently out ROLLING around in the snow laughing and screaming so loud that she could hear them from her room ON THE NINTH FLOOR! It was totally safe to be out--all of our jurisdictions had issued emergency declarations that in essense said you would be fined $1000 if you were found on the roads unless you were fire, rescue or road maintenance or on a medical emergency.
It will have been a memorable experience for all of them. At least we know they won't be kicked out of the hotel (or charged additional monies) or go hungry if they're stranded. And we were worried about terrorism--does this make mother nature a terrorist?
