Your very welcome. I was born and raised in NY in Queens, and boated Jamaica Bay and the lower harbor any number of times. Every year my parents and grandparents would do a boat trip to NJ, around Manhattan and wed always go see the aerial demo team off of Coney Island

I agree, it's a fantastic community, can't tell you how much it's helped me plan and how much I've learned. And I am so envious of all the NYC sailors, it's on my bucket list!

Something else I just thought of. On her way out. On the port side, at the end of Manhattan, is The Battery, formerly Battery Park. Back during the Civil War, it was used as a fort to protect the lower portions of the bay. Just north of that, is FDNY Marine 1, which reopened in2012 ish, when the 2 new fireboats were delivered. Marine 1 is named 343, with the radio call sign Marine 1, and the other, her twin, is Firefighter II, call sign Marine 9. At 1 point there was 9 marine units to protect NY Harbor. There down to 3 big boats, 1,6,9 and a few smaller boats that run during the summer in strategic places. Marine 9 is in what was to be the US Navys Staten Island Homeport, that was built for the battleship Iowa, and her escorts, but never used. Marine 6, is also in a new boat, which is about half the size of the twins 1 and 9, but twice as fast, in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, which is also FDNYs Marine Division Headquarters. On occasion, 1 of the marine units will escort a cruise ship out flowing water as they go.

What time does the ship sail out? Since it's usually about 4:30 I thought we would have plenty of time to pass the main sights before our second seating dinner. Will we still be passing the main sights at that time? For anyone in the NY area, is there a market near the port for us to buy some bottles of water before entering the port? We will be using Disney transportation.

I live in NYC and we are planning to walk to the pier to visit the Magic in Oct, kids have school so not sailing on her until Feb. another idea to consider is to create a FreshDirect account and have a case of water delivered to your hotel the day before if you are staying over. The area by the pier doesn't have a lot of stores....it is right off the West Side Highway. FreshDirect is awesome...can select a two hour delivery window and they probably would deliver to a hotel.
