I am going on a Disney cruise in October 2005.. I booked a category 10, but am now thinking of upgrading.. any stateroom that is better w/out emptying your pocket book? :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

depends on what you want.. personally, on a 3 or 4 day, ocean view is really enough for me.

But then again, I have lucked out and had a verandah on my past two 7 days, and got an upgrade for my upcoming 4 day.

If you can, there are some obstructed view ocean view staterooms, you get the natural light, and a tiny view.. but the windows are so ubstructed that they are priced at an inside room rate.

Or, there are also the CAT 7, navigator verandahs, which is a partially inclosed verandah.. they give you that extra verandah space, but aren't as pricey as the CAT 5 or 6.

Cat 9's are cheaper, and you get the ocean view, the ones on deck 1 have two small portholes though, but I really liked deck 1 the times I had it. CAT 9, is also on deck 2, and they have the regular size portholes, but there are several rooms on deck 2 that have become known as "noisy" rooms, mainly because they are located under the night clubs, or restaurants.

If you are really looking for a bargin.. I'd look into the secret porthole rooms, which are the obstructed oceanview, at the inside price.

I was also going to suggest a secret porthole room. You could find specific room #'s on Barb's site. We ended up booking a category 9 on our TA's advice. We got a randomly assigned a room NEXT door to what many people here have said is the best category 9 room (on 2nd floor). Hopefully our room will be nice too. Good Luck.

We’ve had inside cabins on two of our four cruises, and have no regrets about it. The “Oceanview” and “Veranda” rooms are nice, but sometimes not worth the money IMHO.

Remember, that Cat 5-10 are all the same size stateroom (with a few exceptions) the differences being some have portholes or verandas, and which deck they are on. I also like the layout of the inside cabins more than the outside ones. If this is your first cruise on DCL, I say go for the Cat. 10. You won’t miss the veranda, and you’ll still have a wonderful time.

But, if the price difference is what you would consider reasonable, then the veranda can add another venue to your vacation for relaxation.
