I'm sure this question has been asked MANY times before, but what deck do ya'll like to stay on? Do you really feel more apart of the action if ya stay on deck five instead of say deck 1? It just seems like it would be nice to stay on level five b/c ya could walk out of ur room and walk into the atrium! Or deck eight -- just a deck away from the outside.. ??

I know I am strange in this regard (most people seem to like to stay on the uppermost decks), but I love deck 5. I like being close to the water, and that is as close as you can get with a verandah. It is also convenient for getting either up or down. The kids clubs are on that deck, but they are no bother at all as they are well separated from the staterooms. Midship is probably most convenient, but I like the butt end because I prefer the peace and quiet (my favorite stateroom is 5650). To know what you will be near, remember forward = fun (nightclubs, theater, spa, adult pool...Goofy pool is not far), aft = eat (Palo, Parrot Cay, Animators, buffet).

We stayed on 5 last time and are staying there again on our next cruise. We really liked being in the middle. Its wasnt too far to go up or down to anywhere. The only time we took the elevator was when we had the carriage with us.
I wouldnt mind any of the higher decks either though. I think the lower ones(1 &2) would sort of creep me out, but thats just me.

We stayed on Deck 8 in Cat 4 on four DCL cruises. When we sailed this past 2/23/02 we stayed on deck 1 in a Cat 9. I thought I would hate the lower floor, but I was quite pleasantly surprised. The decks are all decorated the same so when you walk out your cabin you really cannot tell what deck you are on. That goodness it is not like the olden days when there were "class" systems.

We found Deck 1 to be most convenient for shore excursions. We took the stairs alot and I actually lost 5 lbs. on the cruise!!!!

Looking out of the dual portholes was fine....it was pretty neat to be so close to the water! I would definitely stay on Deck 1 again. I did miss our veranda though....
