We have been assigned stateroom 6124 on the Magic for our upcoming cruise. This stateroom is located in the front of the ship, very close to the elevators. Is this a good location, or is a midship stateroom better? We do like how close it is to the elevators.

6124 is actually towards the aft of the ship, near the aft elevators. We've been in a similar room on deck 7, almost right above this one, 7106. I like this location a lot. There's no real noise associated with the elevators, but being near them makes it easier to get around the ship. I like being aft because it's closer to most of the restaurants, and it's a quick trip up to deck 9's drink station to grab a cup of coffee in the morning, or a cool drink later in the day. It's also convenient to the back balcony on deck 7, which would just be a quick flight up from you.

OK, now I am going to show my cruising newbie state, but what is the aft of the ship? I was looking at the diagram in the DCL catalog and thought I was looking at the front of the ship, do I have it backwards?

The aft is the back. When you look at the deck plans, the front of the ship (forward) is at the top of the page, the aft at the bottom. There's a little diagram in the very lower left of the fold-out deck plans in the brouchure that looks like a north arrow on a map, but points out forward, aft, port (left), and starboard (right).
