Yes, we're totally nuts...we booked another Western while on board the 1/4 cruise! We will now be sailing on the Magic Memorial Day weekend. Of course, there were no secret porthole rooms available this late. We need to keep the cost down (we're cancelling our Oct. Wonder trip to do this one), so I booked a far aft Cat. 11. It has been ages since we've sailed anywhere but 5520/5020 or 5650, so I have a few questions. I like peace and quiet, especially on a 7-day. There are no Cat. 10 or 11's that do not have staterooms across from them (one reason that the rooms from 5640/5140 to 5650/5150 are especially quiet). I know that the SPRs get a lot of hallway noise due to being at the head of the hall, so I chose 6645 because it is almost as far aft as you can get on deck 6 (there is only a handicapped stateroom next to it). The inside aft rooms on deck 7 were already taken (plus I thought they might be noisy due to being right by the "secret" aft verandah). Does anybody have any feedback on 6645 or that general vicinity, particularly on the subject of hallway noise/traffic? I am thinking it will be close enough for easy access to the "secret" verandah but with not too much traffic. I definitely don't want to do a Cat. 10 or 9 because we've had bad experiences on deck 2...I'll give up the split bath to avoid the noise potential. After seeing all the people slamming through the halls on our trip last week (and one family that was having some sort of social gathering out there...not sure what that was all about but they were all sitting in the hallway!), I want to be insulated as much as possible. Please share any experiences on deck 6 aft!

I was in one of those handicapped rooms and there was never any noise in that area...the whole cruise I only saw 2 people on that secret aft deck and I let my 2 year old run around in there almost every day. The only noise was when we docked, boy was it noisy back there LOL...all sorts of creaking and noises!

We were in a nav. verandah room on deck 7 aft and loved it! Like the previous person said, we hardly ever saw anyone on the secret verandah and really liked the easy access to Beach Blanket Buffet; we entered through the back entrance to the restaurant. We didn't experience any problem with noise and now aft is definately a favorite area for us! In fact we are forward on our next cruise because it was the only cat 6 room left but I would change it in a heartbeat if another room in the aft area became available. Even with the metal verandah.

If the configuration of the rooms is the same on the Wonder you don't have to worry about noise. Last year we stayed in #6640 & #6642 and it was very quiet. It was easy to get to the restaurants & the free drink station. We're doing back to back cruises (1/19 & 1/23) and we liked the location so much we booked the same staterooms for this year. They're at the end of the hall so the only foot traffic is your neighbors, whom we never saw. I highly recommend taking #6645. If anything has changed I'll let you know when I get back.

Laurenk, I have photos of the "secret" verandah on my website at www.castawayclub.com
Thanks for the feedback, everyone! I don't mind the docking noise, as I am used to it from 5650 (I love engine noise too...it lulls me to sleep). Sounds like I picked a good spot...it seemed to be, but I just wanted to be sure.

Thanks Inkognito! Your website is awesome. This will be our first cruise, and it is all so overwhelming. I am so use to going to WDW, that this is unknown territory for me. I am an overplanner, so I think you will be getting lots of questions from me. You seem to be one of the pros.;)

Of course, I should issue a warning that the "secret" is getting out. We checked out the deck 7 aft verandah towards the middle of our cruise, and it was packed! Also, judging by the number of chairs with crumpled towels and other items on them but no person around (other than people already in chairs), the controversial practice of "saving" was in full swing. I think I am going to make a bogus "Closed" sign for our Mem. Day Western. ;)
