Sailed on the Wonder 04/17/05. Had two connecting cat. 6 rooms. We were in the stateroom when our Hostess was getting the rooms ready for the night. Both our Mothers were in the room next to us so we wanted the queen bed split. When I asked her she gave me a look. Then she said it was too difficult. I said what? She said it was too hard to split them. Now we had really rough seas 14-18 swells and the ship was really rocking. I said "is it because it is too rough?" She said it was just to hard. My husband who is now sick from the rough seas offered to help. She asked could she fix up the other bed for now and if the didn't like it she would work on splitting the beds in the morning. Our mothers were not there to ask and everyone else was either tried or sick - so we just said fine.
To my surprise it actually worked out well. My mother in law said the sofa bed was fine and they had the privacy curtain they could draw at night.
I was just astonished at the hostess statement “that is too difficult” I would think that they do it all the time. I made sure to reflect her attitude when I filled out comment card and in her tip!

It seems to me that if they ...DCL...offer you the option of having the queen bed split into 2 twin beds, they should be happy to accomodate your needs of wanting the 2 beds instead of 1.If the spliting of the beds is too difficult, should they even offer that? What was the Hostess' name? My luck I will get her on our August cruise. I am glad that it ended up working out okay for your mom and mother in law. Are you foing to file a trip report from your trip?I am anxious ti hear all about it. :earseek:

Shame on the stateroom hostess. You requested the beds to be split, and that's what she should have done. It's part of her job. I'm an easy going person, but that request should have been carried out, especially since your husband was going to help, too. Gee whiz, I would have helped her, also.

Did they keep the sleeping arrangments an sofa bed/queen bed or did the split the queen bed for the rest of the cruise?

Wow..I am really floored by this. I find it completely unacceptable!!! THey are separate beds, for that reason..TO be separated if needed. I was told this by DCL supervisor last year when my FIL travelled with us..

I am glad you noted it on your comment card. From what I understand they do take heed in it.

Glad it all worked out anyway for you all.. :goodvibes

We had the same thing happen on our 3 night cruise last June. We had two connecting Cat. 6 rooms with my husband and I in one room, and our two daughters in the other (they were 16 & 19 at the time). We asked our stateroom host to separate the beds in the girls room, and he also said he couldn't (or wouldn't...can't remember which). He said he would set up the sofa bed for one of the girls and the other could sleep in the queen. My younger daughter got the sofa bed, but wasn't very comfortable, so the following nights were spent with both of them sharing the queen. Surprisingly, we never saw our stateroom host again after the initial visit on the first day, so we weren't able to ask him again to separate the beds.

wow that is soooo opposite of the service we received from our stateroom hosts!! our first one never brought us ice but he separated the beds, no problem!! our second room hostess was awesome in all aspects!!

We've had them split the bed on all 4 of our Disney cruises without any problems. I would suggest going over your hosts head if this ever happens again.

If you ever have a problem like that, give Guest Services a call. We have been fortunate to have great service from our hosts and hostesses, but I would say something if they refused a request like that. The beds are meant to split, so your request should be honored.

Same thing happened to us in Dec 04 on 3 day. It was my MIL and myself and he suggested the sofa bed. Of course, I got stuck with the sofa bed, which was very lumpy. But, I did like having the curtain to seperate the rooms and I could watch TV without bothering my MIL. And my MIL said every morning how well she slept, while I was stiff and had a sore neck, (but I didn't let her know to ruin her trip). But, I was surprised by our host not wanting to seperate the beds. We told him right when we got there on the 1st afternoon and I also requested it on my ressies. Also, out of 3 cruises in 6 months, we never got any ice or extra service from our hosts. :sad2:

haven't been on a cruise yet, but can you seperate the beds yourself? cuz I'll definately want two beds and I'll probably get the mean attendant with my luck...hmmm maybe I should bring tools....

We have never requested the beds be split but several posters mentioned not getting ice. There is a card in your room to be filled out the first day asking whether you would like ice each day and if so, how often. If you filled out your card and did not get your ice, a call to Guest Services or a verbal request to your host(ess) should do the trick.

we cruised a 4 day last november and there was never a card in our room to specify if we wanted ice each day or anything else...since we had 5 people ina cat 4 they made up all the beds each night and we did not have any problems except for the one time we did request ice ot took over 2 hours to get it! LOL

I agree with the others...if we want the beds separated we will get them separated by going over the hosts head and trust me, their tip would be significantly reduced! :sad2:

We had the same thing last August. It really surprised me but I decided not to push the issue because the kids did have enough beds. They rotated and took turns on the 'big' bed, the top bunk and the sofa bed.

I would have thought two beds would have been easier.

She was really a good room steward though.

I am hoping to get our beds seperated this time.....the last 2 times that lump in the middle where they push them together was making me nuts!!

You can separate them easy enough ... but the twin bedding is not stored in the room ... so even if you succeeded in separating the beds, you couldn't make them up ... really, it isn't that hard and I understand the stateroom hosts/hostesses are busy on embarkation day, but that isn't an excuse for not wanting to do their job ... in our case they couldn't get away with telling us to use the sofa bed, since that's where DD sleeps, so they HAVE to split our bed if we ask for it

We had it on our ressie for our 9/04 cruise ... and when we got to the room the bed was still together. I mentioned it to our stateroom hostess -- and it was done before they were turned down that night.

We were in a Cat 7 -- so they could have suggested one of us sleep on the sofa bed.

Perhaps the bigger issue is they only have X amount of twin mattress stored onboard?

Even when the two beds are pushed together, it's just two twin mattresses pushed together, so unless there is a shortage of bedding, it should be no problem. This is a pretty standard confiquration on cruise ships.

Hey :wave2: we were on the same cruise! Wasn't that first night a rocky one! Everyone in my family needed the medication, but me. I just went with those waves. Anyway, we also needed the bed split for our boys and had no problem (deck 7 aft). He did it right away and left fun towel animals every night. It was an awesome cruise, wasn't Castaway Cay pure paradise??!!!
