I'm looking at booking cruise #5 soon. We've stayed all over the ship(s) on our first 4 and I'm totally undecided on where to book #5.

I'd love opinions and pros and cons you've found for various deck locations.
Here is where we've stayed:
6 AFT nearest elevators (dream)
2 Forward-very near the very front (magic)-1 kid got seasick
5 AFT near aft elevators(dream)
9 AFT at the very back, extended balcony(fantasy)-1 kid got seasick

All had their benefits. I'm so indecisive! :rotfl2:Definitely don't want to be way forward or way aft as both times my son got seasick in those rooms.

We've only been on one but our travel agent picked the room for us. She said we'd feel movement less in the middle and up high so we were on 10 in the middle. We didn't feel much and I didn't get sick but did get dizzy from the movement down on 2 and 3. Our only mild complaint is that being right below the pool we could hear people dragging chairs around. We thought middle on 9 would be perfect but we haven't tried others. As we're debating on our next cruise we're considering other options to keep the cost down if we go crazy and go over Christmas. I'll have to keep in mind your son got seasick at the far ends and avoid those.

We always stay Aft near the elevators on Dream/Fantasy, maybe 3-4 staterooms off the staircase/elevator bay entrance.

We’ve never had an issue with vibration or motion. We get some foot-traffic noise when people are going to dinner, but it’s pretty short-lived.

Why we prefer it: we can shoot straight up to Cabanas or straight down to Animator’s and nightclubs. And it's actually quicker to get to the Oceaneer Club/Lab from the Aft elevators than the Mid-ship elevators.

We personally enjoy Deck 8 midship and always book that location. Give it a try and let us know how it worked out for you. Bon Voyage.

We just got back from Deck 5 fwd (but as far aft as 'forward' can be) and slept like babies. I do take meclizine for motion sickness 'just in case' but had no issues in that location. Too far forward definitely hits me harder.

Just stay away from just below the pool deck, just above the Buena Vista Theater, or below Cabanas. Also the Fantasy is famous for it's aft vibrations especially when coming into port each morning. We love being by the elevators, and absolutely love aft floor 5 on the Magic (the atrium is so accessible!) Midship is best if you are looking to minimize movement, but I recommend a middle level deck, 7 or 8 on Dream and Fantasy, 5 or 6 on Magic Wonder.

Always look to see what is above and below you! Its best if you have staterooms in above and below to minimize noise. Starboard is awesome if you are going to Castaway Cay!

Hope that helps!

Do you give your kids seasickness medication? Middle is the best for seasickness, but you can get seasick on any floor and location of the ship, it will just depend on how rocky the ship is. My recommendation would be to give them children's dramamine regardless of whether you think you will need it or not. The key is to give it to them before you board the ship and before you get sick. Once you're sick, it's pretty much too late. It takes a while for it to work.

I'm curious why 2 people have said 8 specifically. What's better than 7 or 9? I'm still learning.
I should have noted that my answer was for the Dream class. Specifically we like 8098 and 8556. I like midship for lack of movement, and 8 for insulation/only rooms above and below as well as number of flights down to kids clubs or up to the pool deck

We've done 5 cruises, mid-ship deck 2 for 4 cruises and mid-ship deck 5 on one cruise. I get sick whenever we have rough seas, doesn't matter where I'm at on the ship(have gotten ill in all different locations). I can't do the patch because of other medical conditions, but do take Bonine and it helps some. Last cruise whenever I started to feel ill, I would suck on ginger candy and it help tremendously, never got sick. I ordered some from Amazon, needs to have real ginger in it, not just flavored. You don't mention what kind of room you want. Last cruise we were in an OV cabin 2556 on the Fantasy. I LOVED it. It's down a hidden hallway on deck 2, it was so quiet, I was afraid we would hear noises from EC restaurant or from deck 3 and never heard any noises at all. I'm an extremely light sleeper, so if there had been any noises I would have heard it. We have another cruise booked on the Fantasy and we are staying in the same room.

It was on a small ferry that I learned my wife and daughter are both prone to motion sickness...not fun for anyone. When we cruise, I carry Bonine and give one each to the whole family every morning. We have not had any problems staying on deck 9 forward (Fantasy), deck 2 aft, or deck 5 mid (both Magic). We have also had great weather and smooth seas on all three, so that might explain our good fortune.

I'd say that based on your previous cruises, that midship is the way to go. The middle will be the best location to avoid seasickness. Look into getting some seabands for your kids. As for the deck.....I stayed on 7 and it was fine (on the Fantasy) and taking the stairs vs the elevator allowed me to eat more at the buffet but I always beat the elevators. The kids will love deck 9 or 10 as it gets them so close to the main pool deck...specifically for the 🍦

I stayed on deck 10 on the Dream and loved being so close to everything.

We did end up pulling out the sea bands for my kids after my son got seasick last cruise. It seemed to help thankfully. Funnily enough I actually asked my kids what deck they would want the next cruise to be on. Both said deck 9 so they can be closer to the ice-cream station. lol. Guess I answered my own question :rotfl2:
