Hi! We are sailing out on the Wonder this Sunday July 17, 2005. We just received our packet and was surprised to find our room has been changed. We were in room can't remember the number but we were on deck 7 we are now on deck 1 in 1045 or 2045(sorry don't have numbers with me). Which looking at the layout of the boot seems to be at the bottom of the ship. Is this a common practice? We were told that we had booked the last room on the ship so i am a bit confused as to how this could happen. Maybe i am worring to much about this. Does anyone have any ideas?

Without more detail, it is a little hard to answer.... Were you originally in an Inside room on deck 7 (I think Cat 10-12) and could possibly have been upgraded to an outside room (Cat 8-9) on deck 1 or 2? If that is the case, it is probably a good move. Being lower in the ship isn't a big deal at all (There are still several decks lower still for the crew and storage and such.) There is usually a little less motion on the lower decks. The only time being lower would effect you at all would be when you want to go up to deck 9 or 10. From deck 1 or 2, you would probably want to take the elevator (unless you are good with that many flights of stairs.) which really isn't that bad. We found it was easier to get an elevator when on 1 or 2 than it was from 3,4 or 5.

Did you book a 12gty cabin? If you did, gty means that they can place you anywhere in the ship as long as it is at least the cabin level that you booked. If you booked an assigned room, I'm more confused.

If you booked the gty, you can be re-located even if you were given a tentative cabin number. It is possible that there was a problem with the cabin that you were assigned....or with another guest's cabin which required some reshuffling to keep everyone in at least the category they had purchased.

For example, we had to be moved once after we boarded due to an equipment malfunction in our cabin. The engineering crew was in our cabin twice (for 2 hours each time)...and when they still couldn't resolve the problem, we were moved to another cabin. I found it interesting that they had a cabin available in our category even on a supposedly "full" ship.

If you had requested a specific cabin or a specific deck, I'd call DCL and ask them about the change.

I've never sailed on deck 1. However, I've been on 2,5,6,and 7. I always find something positive about each location we've been in...although I do have my favorites.

Thanks so much for the replies. I was worried about feeling the movement of the boat more on the lower level of the boat. But you know now as I sit here and think about it all we are gonna do there is sleep so i don't guess it really matters.

Besides, you actually feel less movement on the lower levels. I had a Spa treatment done on a rocky day (deck 10), then went to our room (deck 2). There was a huge decrease in the amount of movement when I went down to our room.

When we took the bridge tour, it was explained to us that Disney has to keep a certain ratio of crew to passengers and that once that ratio is met, no more passengers can be onboard (and no crew added) because of the ship's total capacity. So, if several families of 4 were aboard, as opposed to the same number of families of 2, there would still be empty cabins.

I've also read here (although I've never tried to confirm it) that Disney will stop taking family reservations once the kids' club capacity is met? Not sure about that one since I know that kids' club is occasionally too full to take kids in for the evening.
