State Fairs and Other Festivals

Crowd was there- sold out, rides were there, good beer selection, plenty of food options, but missing about 1/2 the product sellers which is our favorite part. I think a lot of sellers miscalculated the response. We did buy the worlds best carrot peeler. My wife really wants a flag pole, not going there.

Was the $1500 cookware set guy there following imprecise recipes?

The California State Fair has been postponed, and no date has been released. They are having a Butler Amusements carnival at the state fair site, but this is strictly going to be just a carnival. They're claiming that the site's use as a vaccination location is preventing the full state fair.

On Wednesday, fair organizers announced that Cal Expo’s extension of vaccination programs through September means that the fair will be postponed.

The Marin County Fair was a "virtual event" this year. There's a claim that the Alameda County Fair is going to be on for 10 days in late October. I don't see anything on the official website. The usual time is June to Mid-July - typically around 3 weeks. I understand that it makes most of its money from the horse racing.

Has your state resumed its fairs and other festivals this summer? @ronandannette has already said The Calgary Stampede is currently running.

Delaware’s Fair starts Thursday July 22 until July 31. They did hold the fair last summer but I heard it was only about half the size as normal and was poorly attended. No concerts.

Concerts return this year but none that interest me. I attend about every 2 or 3 years and am looking forward to going again. Last visit was 2018 or 19.

Have fun if you go.

Our county had their fair at the beginning of April this year, like always. The health department had a vaccination clinic on the fairgrounds (that's where DS and I were vaccinated) and then they ran a booth at the fair, offering walk up vaccinations. We usually don't go to the fairs; the last state fair I went to was in Phoenix, back in...geez, 2002.

I know football games are back, because I am going to the Broncos-Jags game in September. (WOOT) DH and I turned down a couple of offers from his office to go to a Shrimps game (AAA? baseball).

I don't think my current county actually has a fair, but the county I grew up in is holding theirs this year as normal. (They actually held a drive-through one last year as well, so they wouldn't break a streak.)

The amusement park nearest us is open, and the regional equivalent of a big state fair is scheduled to happen in September, after being cancelled last year.

The Renaissance fair I've been to a couple of times also looks like it will be on this year.

I miss the RenFaire! There was an awesome one in Denver and Phoenix. Looked out here in the south, and I found a couple of single weekend ones, with none of the awesome talent from those other two places.

Our county fair, which originally started out as a youth fair focused on agriculture and science, IS being held.

The dates are November 18 - December 5.

We used to take advantage of the free county employee day, but no more since we retired. Plus DD hasn't exhibited in years.

I really hope we have time to go to the State Fair of Texas this year. It's the largest in the US. I also hope we are able to go to our city's Stock Show and Rodeo in January. It's the longest continuously operating one in the US. It's not nearly as big as the state fair but it's still a lot of fun. On Rodeo Day at Kid#2's school, the kids and teachers dress in Western wear and go to the rodeo. It's a lot of fun.

Our county fair started yesterday as normal. It's 95% outdoors anyway. Last year they had fair show and go style- bring your project or livestock briefly to be judged and leave.

Iowa State Fair is on as normal for next month.

You and me both. I usually take a day off from work so we can go on a weekday. Except for 2019 when I accidentally picked one of those non-holidays like Columbus Day that banks and schools get off. We (DH) had to park so far out that the tram wouldn't go that far out, and the tram drivers said, "I didn't even know the parking lot went that far."

We usually have a huge midway during the last week of July called The Ex. It was cancelled last year and this year they are planning on doing a scaled back version next month. We are slowly reopening, and of course, all the non vaxxed people are complaining that we're living in communism because they can't do the same things that double vaxxed people can do.

I saw the best reply to these complaints...we're not punishing the anti vax people, we're rewarding the double vaxxed. They are quickly learning there are consequences for your actions. Don't get vaccinated, but don't complain that you have to stay home or in outdoor spaces only.
Except there are people who can't get the Covid-19 shot.

The skincare people sure were there, be warned , major ripoff artists

My wife is too polite at times. She let those scammers try to bamboozle her. I tried to get her to leave, but didn't want to seem rude to them.

Until she heard the prices. They thought they found a sucker, and when my wife refused to buy after them spending 15 minutes with her, THEY got rude.

We seem to be having a problem or two at Rolling Loud, a big hip hop festival that is returning to Miami after a brief absence. The projection screen collapsed. Fortunately nobody was injured.

Lots of big stars will be performing this weekend, including Kanye West...or not. The promoters are teasing him for Sunday, but no official announcement or denial so far.

Delaware State Fair began today. Maybe DH and I will go Sunday. If not, one day during the week.

Austin City Limits Festival is back this October. It usually brings in somewhere in the vicinity of 100k people over 3 days.

I saw that SXSW will be in person again next spring. That was the first big event cancellation that caught my attention at the start of the pandemic.
