starwood room upgrades help

I was just wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to redeem
points for a room upgrade if the room is not booked through the hotel directly or through starwood? I have found good rates through Dreams Unlimited but would I be able to upgrade at check-in with Starwood points? Has anyone ever done this?

Starwood has a best rate guarantee, that will match any advertised rate available to the public and subtract 10%. This is available for room only rates, but might help you to use your points. Check their website.

I also booked thru Dreams Unlimited. We are Starwood Preferred Gold members. I simply called the Dolphin directly and had them add our starwood # to our reservation.
