Hi, I'm Karen and I am overweight! I feel like I just started out an AA meeting or something.
Today is the start of my new life, healthy eating, regular exercise and an overall change in my lifestyle. I was weighed in at Discovery Health National Body Challenge this morning and I am committing myself to changing my habits for the better.
I've tried different things in the past, Atkins --but I am in the low percent that didn't do well on this and actually suffered some permanent kidney damage. Went off that and tried WW and did well, but I simply cannot afford both WW and my gym membership so I am sticking with the gym.
Almost 2 years ago I developed anaphylactic food allergies (eggs, bananas, tree nuts, peanuts, oysters & mussels) and also found out that I have a pretty rare condition called eosinophlic gastroenteritis (EG for short) that causes lots of stomach problems, pain, etc..when it flares up. I had been on a lot of prednisone and just recently was able to wean off of it completely. I'm starting to feel like myself again.
In 2004 I did the 1/2 marathon at WDW just to prove to myself that I could do it. This May, my DH & I plan on finishing the Nissan Buffalo 1/2 Marathon and then the 1/2 in WDW in Jan 2006. We've both decided that we need to be healthier examples to our son and although my DH doesn't need to loose weight, per se, he wants to be healthier overall.
Personally, I'm 35, have been married to DH for almost 13 years and our DS is 8 years old. I am blessed to be able to work from home and run an in-home licensed daycare in Rochester, NY. I'm lucky to be able to afford a gym membership to a women-only gym, where I can also get lots of great advice on exercise and weight-training programs.
Right now my focus is on exercising regularily and drinking more water. I plan on sticking to a WW meal plans with points to keep me in check and portion control to help with the weight loss. When I weighed in today I found that I weigh more now than I did when I delivered my DS and that is what is prompting me to make this change now, not tomorrow or the next day.
I look forward to getting to know everyone here alot better!
