I haven't been on in a while, but it's starting to get close to trip time and I'm back to glean as much information as possible!

We're heading to WDW in January with our 5 kidlets. DD1 is a former micropreemie who is blind with significant developmental delays. DS1 has a HGH deficiency, other endocrine issues, high functioning autism, celiac's disease and a dairy allergy, DD2 was born with multiple congenital heart defects and has had two open heart surgeries this year with another upcoming, DS2 is also a former micropreemie who has ataxic CP (he is mobile), chronic lung disease w/aspiration issues, g-tube fed. The newest baby is due any day now. No known issues other than being a newborn at Disney.

We are planning to stay at the Bay Lake Towers. It cost us a whole lot of extra points but I thought it would be worth it to have the ease of travel for every one.

We are planning on attempting two double strollers for ease of mobility. I don't typically consider my kids as having mobility issues, but my three year old daughter with the heart issues really can't do those kind of distances without tiring, and neither can my son with CP. My oldest daughter's developmental delays on top of her blindness means she can easily get confused in a crowd and just start wandering off in a random direction without any warning if she hears something that piques her interest, and at that point why not add the extra seat for my five year old son, lol.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for double strollers that are easiest to use and transport around Disney? I'm hoping for ease of folding down/setting up, light and compact as possible? We're hoping to rent them there...any recommendations on a rental company? My kids are all very light--- my oldest just turned 8 but only weighs 40 pounds, so I don't *think* we'd need a specific special needs stroller that holds higher weight limits...at the most in one stroller would be 73 pounds? My daughter is definitely average height for her age--- right around 46 inches. Does height matter when considering a stroller?

My only other real question comes to g-tube feedings. How do you get all the formula you will need for a trip from point A to Disney? We will be flying there and staying for 12 days and will need several cases....those things are *not* light! Do they count against your weight limit? Do you check them as baggage or can you carry them on the plane? And how does it work in terms of character meals? I know they charge a set fee for the buffet to include the character experience. If your child can't eat any of the food, do still pay for them the same way because of the character aspect of the meal? I am hoping to make meal reservations this week and I wanted to ask here first in case my question is a dumb one. :bag He will have *just* turned three before we get there, and I know that is the age they start to charge for children.

My one final question is how can I find out how many people are allowed on one "ride" at a time. For example, Peter Pan's Flight--- can you have three people in a row if two of them are children and one adult? If I have a newborn in a sling and try to sit with two of my kids, is that o.k.? None of our kids can go in a ride vehicle independent of a parent, so if there are rides that absolutely do not allow three across then we will have to avoid those rides because of the time it would take to go through the line 4 times to allow each child a chance on the ride. We're not looking at doing any height restricted rides as a family because of medical conditions and a newborn who can't do height restricted anyway. We might try and finagle so that daddy can take our oldest on a few of the "thrill" rides like Splash Mountain/Thunder Mountain, since she is the only one tall enough and she loves that kind of motion.

Otherwise I think we're o.k. We're deliberately going at this time of year hoping for the lowest crowds possible. We expect it will take us a long time to do much, we're sticking to the "tame" stuff, and we know the kids will be thrilled over the moon no matter how little or how much we accomplish, so :goodvibes we pretty much feel like we can't really "fail." Just want to make sure we're covering all our bases as we're prepping to go!

If you'll have a car available I would suggest you scrap the idea of flying with the formula even though you can take it as medical supplies in checked baggage for free. See, instead, if you can order it for pickup there at a local store and just take a few on the flight for immediate or emergency use.

Can you have your DME set up delivery using a DME near WDW? It certainly will reduce all that weight. Have fun. Karen

don't forget to make them aware of your food allergies when making your dining plans. They are great about allergies/diet needs.

For having older children in a double stroller we really like McClaren. I have a DS that was born with clubfeet and his feet and legs wear out fast when walking at WDW. The double we have holds up to 100lbs. very easy to steer even with having big differences in the weight of the kids. As far as break down...its just ok, takes a little practice then its easy. We haven't rented down there, so I have no reccomendations. Sorry

For Peter Pan's Flight, they have allowed me to ride to kids and one adult many many times. I don't think that will be an issue for you. Most of the easy going rides it should be accomodating for your family. I am trying to rack my brain if there is one that won't. I would think it just the ones with seat belts that would be more of an issue.

I hope you have a wonderful trip!!

My husband and I always sit with our son between us and this never seems to be an issue. The only rides that we can not do this on are things like the Barnstormer (wich you can't take a baby on anyway). I don't think that a baby in a sling or in your lap is an issue. Also I would call the airline and explane the need of your formual. Most of time they are dealing with people tryign t take large amounts because of convenance, but I would call and expalin the medical reason that you need more that most and see what they recomend. There is a Publix near Disney that may be able to help you as well if you call them ahead of time they may be able to order the amount that you need so that you don't have to travel with a 12 day supply.

I think the idea of having your medical supply at home arrange for a medical supply down there to deliver it to your resort for you.

Yeah--- I forgot to mention that he is on a special medical formula....you can't just buy it at a store, it is through a DME company.

I didn't know they would deliver out of state. I will definitely have to ask.

For renting double strollers, it sounds like regular double strollers will suit your brood. Check out Orlando Stroller Rentals -- they sponsor the Families board. :) Be sure to stop by Guest Services for GACs for your kids that need accomodations. For my son w/ mild CP (also mobile, but not near as much strength or stamina as same age peers) being able to use his stroller as a wheelchair & haviing it in line was key to our enjoying our trips.

I would strongly recommend renting two of the citi mini doubles from orlandostrollerrentals. We rented last trip for our kids, they go up to 100 lbs. wt total, and are sooooooo comfortable and easy to use- absolutely awesome in every respect!

Can't help with the other quesitons, sorry; but definitely know about the strollers- and agree, sounds like you'll need the stroller as wheelchair GAC.

For the most part, I think you are O.K. here. I've been racking my brain trying to think if we have had any trouble as a family of 5. What I came up with:
1) Toy Story Midway Mania - not sure what the ruling is with infants and 3 across on this one
2) Buzz - fits 3, but only 2 guns (probably not a concern for you)
3) Speedway - I have seen someone report 3, but I'm not sure if this would work w/ the baby

Otherwise the only others we've had to split up on don't apply to your family as they have height restrictions (Rock'n'roller coaster, EE)

We've fit 3 fine (with older kids than yours) on Peter Pan, Dumbo, Pooh etc..

Have a magical trip!:wizard:

I don't have any real advice....just wanted to say hi from another mircro-preemie mom. My little guy was born at 26 weeks, 1lb and 7oz. He spent 83 days in the NICU before coming home. So, I know what a difficult road that is!

I hope your family has an amazing trip!

Lots of preemies around these parts...... DS6 is a former 26 weeker, but he was "big" at 2 lbs 5 oz

My new twins are preemies too, born at 30w 5d -- again "big" at 3 lbs 8 oz each.

I wish I was planning our next trip.... :( but I think we're waiting til the twins are 2. There are other more immediate needs to be spending our money on.......
