YIKES!

I have come to the realization that working one job is just not cutting it. My take home pay for one week is $350, and I just can not afford to live on that. With rent, electric, water, cable (ahh..but the CHEAP cable!), phone, medical bills, food, various things for a two year old...I have exactly $50 at the end of the month. After much thought, I decided to get a second job, on top of my 40 hour a week job. So, starting Monday, I begin working at UPS loading and unloading trucks from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. M-F. While I'll only be getting about 4 1/2 to 5 hours of sleep a night (I usually have to have 8 or I'm a zombie), this will in the long run be worth it. After 30 days, UPS gives you free medical insurance, and after 90 you also receive free vision and dental. You start at $8.50 an hour, after 90 days you're bumped up to $9. At that time, you can take a "zip code" test, and if you know enough zip codes, they bump you up to $10 an hour and move you to a little bit of an easier area to work.

I've never had to do a job like this before, but I feel if I stick with the company long enough I may slowly move up the ladder and end up working in the offices somewhere. The current CEO of UPS started out as a loader/unloader, so I have to admit that that's kinda inspiring. My current job charges about $40 a week for insurance (medical only) and I can not afford that.

SO! Please wish me lots of luck. This extra money is going into savings for my little one, along with a vacation or two for her in about a year. She deserves it. She deserves the best! :) I just hope I can survive this! :)

Good luck on your new second job! I have a feeling you will meet lots of great new people and really enjoy this company. My UPS man seems so nice and pretty darn happy. :teeth:
You also sound like a great mom. Keep up the good work. :wave2:

Good luck on your second job ~ Hope everything goes well for you.

goof luck with your new job, UPS jobs, even part time ones are hard to come by around here, so you did very well!!!

Good luck on that Steph, and plan some naps on weekends:earsboy:

Sounds like before long you will be able to leave your 40 hour per week job and be full time at UPS. It will be tough in the short run, but likely worth in the long run. Good luck. I bet you'll develop killer arms in the meantime!

That sounds like something I can do as well... I have a hard time finding midnight shifts because my DH has to leave our house before 6 am!

I could do 3 am because my DH is still home then.

Zip codes aren't that bad.. I can quiz you on NJ/PA ones!

Thank you all. I have to admit that I'm scared to death with this...but, "The end justifies the means." so I know I'll be ok. :) A bit tired, but ok.

DH did this many years ago.

He said it was physically demanding but very rewarding.

UPS is a great company to work for.

Good luck with this. I worry about you working so hard, though.

Good Luck!

DH says UPS is a wonderful company to work for, he has 2 good friends that works with them and they do very well. Its always good to have a job where you can transfer anywhere as well.
