Starring Rolls food to go?

On our next trip I am determined to see Fantasmic--we've gone to WDW twice and for some reason or other we always manage to skip this. Not this next time.

I'd like to pick up some sandwiches (and chips and cupcakes YUM) at Starring Rolls and take them to eat while we wait for F to start. (yes, this is assuming SR still has food this late in the day.)

Do they have to go containers? How do you transport all this stuff. The plates they give you are not very sturdy and that sandwich is pretty bulky. Then there's the whole cupcake transport issue.

How to do this? Even if we can't do it for F, I'm sure there will be a day when we want to haul food back to the room.

They don't have containers that will fit the cupcake except laying down and squishing them quite a bit. They don't have larger ontainers just small containers and when i was trying to take 2 cupcakes with me they did not even have a bag to put them in. They gave me containers at the checkout and had me package everything myself - behind the counter everything went on a plate.

I have no clue about SR. If you want to take stuff back to your room from the food court, it's no big deal. They are prepared for this. At CBR you just told them "to go" and the have lids that fit the plates, nothing gets squished and it stays warm. Then at the register we asked for a large bag and they have sturdy bags with handles. You just load it all up and off you go! 2 people could easily get breakfast for all 8 of us and we took lunch back one day too!

Doesn't SR close at 4:00 pm? If so, you are going to be carrying food around, whether or not in take out container, a long time.

Yes, Starring Rolls generally closes at 4, and they do not provide adequate long-term storage for their items. It's generally assumed there that you are going to eat them as soon as you buy them.

We never eat our food at SR - always pack it and take it with us. They do have boxes, but as mentioned, not very large. We do manage to get a cupcake into one and a sandwich into another without squishing them too much. However as others have pointed out, they do close early and I would not want to be carrying food around from early afternoon until Fantasmic begins. The items you purchase there as a meal are not exactly the types of food you could happily leave out of a refrigerator for that amount of time. Another point to note is that although they close at 4 pm, the start to run out of products much earlier so if you leave it to the last minute, chances are you are not going to get what you really want to eat.

I'll add also that we stopped by SR one afternoon (maybe around 3ish) and the cupcake selection was very limited. We came back the next morning to get a Butterfinger cupcake.

We had the same experience- they wouldn't package anything for us, they gave it to us on a plate and gave us to-go containers and had us pack it. Seemed like a waste of a plate and there was no one else in the restaurant, so it wasn't that they were too busy to pack it. It was fine, but the cast members weren't friendly about it, it was like we were imposing on them.

Yes but they are talking about taking to go food from a Park CS.

At a resort CS they understand that often people take food back to their rooms to eat so they have the proper containers.

Most people at a Park CS only need to carry their food from the counter to a table so they would rarely need take out containers.

We got a cupcake to go around 1pm. They still had all of the cupcakes there but there was only 2 or 3 of each left, so you should get there early afternoon to get what you want. Plus they do close around 4pm. They gave me a to go container and I had to lay the cupcake sideways in it, but it did not squish it. It closed fine and then I kept it in my fridge in the room. It would have gotten melty and gross if I had to carry it around in that heat.

Just thinking of last year - our marble cupcake from SR survived a few spins on RnR (I forgot that it was in its container in my backpack :rotfl:) so there are advantages to a tight squeeze. Your challenge is carrying perishable food around in the heat.

SR has to be one of the most challenging places to get to-go food - I'd really try to find another CS in DHS to get something at to take while waiting for F!. It's a risk I just wouldn't be willing to take on vacation, toting around perishable food in the FL sun for a few hours to eat later. Unless you want to drag along some sort of insulated bag to carry them around in. But keep in mind as others have said, they only have small to-go containers - they do not adequately fit the sandiwches or the cupcakes. It's also a risk that there is anything left - during spring break this year they were pretty much cleared out of everything by 2pm.

I really would just find another option! There are several CS food options right across from the F! entrance with hot dogs, burgers, soft pretzels, ice cream, turkey legs, etc.

I'm an outside the box kind of guy...how about bringing some sort of container, perhaps tupperware, to DHS with you, and stashing it in a locker?

Last fall, DH & I spent many of our last CS & snack credits at SR, so we got several cupcakes & sandwiches. As stated, they gave us the containers to pack our own. I think they do this because the cupcake gets slightly mooshed & they don't want to be responsible for such.

We took several Walmart bags to the park with us & loaded all of the boxes into the bags for easy carrying. I didn't think the cupcakes got too smashed in the boxes - tasted good to us! We drove to & from WDW, so we packed all of our leftovers into baggies, packed 2 styrofoam ice chests we bought at Publix for $4 each, used Disney's ice, & enjoyed our SR treats for at least a week after we got home - yum!

However......please don't carry the sandwiches & cupcakes around the park or keep them off ice or out of refrigeration for very long. Don't want you or a member of your family to suffer food poisoning!

Enjoy SR; we love it.

I bought a cupcake from Starring Rolls last Wednesday and asked the CM for a box so I could take it back to our resort and eat it. She packed it up nicely for me...put it down sideways in one of the little boxes and taped up the box for me. It didn't get squished at all.

I loved that cupcake so much that the next day I went back to SR and bought 2 more cupcakes. I asked the CM (a different one) for a box, and she wasn't quite as nice as the one the day before. In fact, she seemed super annoyed that she had to reach her arm out 3 extra inches to grab 2 boxes, lol. Anyway, we did the best we could getting the cupcakes into the boxes, but they did get a little squished when we did it.

By the time we got back to our room, the frosting on top was starting to melt a bit, so I'm not sure that I would carry food around too long before eating it or getting it into a fridge.

Isn't there a CS place, or at least a food stand inside the F! theater? I believe they let you in the theater an hour before the show, so another option would be once you get your seat, send a runner to go get some food to bring back to your seats.

I've never seen sandwiches past 2pm and we go during a slower time of year. Even if they could be packed efficiently, I wouldn't haul packages of food around for that long for a couple of reasons: we go when it's hot - lunchmeat in 90+ degree heat for hours, you're asking for foodborne illness , and without fail, I would put down my goodies and leave them somewhere without thinking.

I know this is an old thread, but we just got back last night & I happened to take a pic of what 2 cupcakes looked like after getting them "to go" and heading right back to the resort with them:

They were in pieces & smooshed!
