Am I the only one NOT happy about the announcement that Starbuck's will be making a presence in the WDW parks??? Don't get me wrong, I'm a Starbuck's fan. I don't know about anyone else, however, but when I get into "The World" I don't want to see any outside influences, reminders, etc. This to me is like bringing the outside world in. What's next, McDonald's??? :confused3:furious:

McDonald's had a presence in WDW and Disneyland for years and years.
It was only within the last couple of years that McD's (in some form) is no longer in the parks.

I don't care, frankly.

If I like their products, I'll buy them.
If I don't, I'll ignore them.
Just like any other vendor at the parks.

I get your frustration, but for me, as long as they're themed properly (and don't just look like your regular old Starbucks) I'm fine with it for the trade off of having their products available in the parks.
I don't like their plain coffee much, but a hot day in the park I don't want hot coffee anyways and I like Starbucks iced drinks.

But if it has no Disney theme and isn't well hidden I'll be angry.

As pp have mentioned Mickey D's has been there, and there is Rainforest Cafe. I have two of those in my general area. Don't think it will stand out too much so I wouldn't worry

They've already said that making sure it doesn't look like your run of the mill starbucks is going to be a huge deal for them. There won't be any big signs, the spots will all be themed to wherever they are in the park, the uniforms will not be starbucks uniforms, unless you know what you're looking for, it'll look like just another park shop.

I am doing the happy hamster dance of joy! :cool1::cool1::cool1:

I like Starbucks and have been VERY unhappy at the lack of coffee in Disney. Sorry, Nescafe is NOT coffee. I can't wait. They can't get there soon enough!

I'm afraid if you're going to complain about outside influences in the parks, you're a few decades too late.

McDonald's, as Robo noted, had a long run in the parks, first appearing in 2007 and leaving the parks for good in April of 2010. But beyond that, there are sponsors and other "real world" reminders everywhere.

Kodak Photo Spots have been part of the parks for decades. Coca-Cola sponsors Club Cool at Epcot with all of the various Coke flavors (and merchandise). Siemens sponsors IllumiNations (used to be GE). Cirque du Soleil is a massive worldwide brand. House of Blues ... Rainforest Cafe ... T-Rex Restaurant ... the Nestles Tollhouse Bakery on Main Street (right next to the Edy's Ice Cream Parlor) ... Liberty Tree Tavern hosted by Stouffers ... LMA presented by Brawny ... The American Idol Experience ...

You really can't go too far within WDW before you find outside influences, reminders, etc. Nature of the beast.

:earsboy:

According to yesterland.com:

Disney’s Animal Kingdom at the Walt Disney World Resort opened in April 1998 with an entire land, Dinoland U.S.A., presented by McDonald’s.

And here is more history of McD's at WDW.

So Starbucks doesn't scare me. I wish Joffrey's could have gotten a bigger presence in the parks (other than the kiosk outside AK, the one just inside Epcot, and the coffee place at Contemporary), but they don't bring the $$$ like Starbucks will.

Fine. You can have your Disney-Nestle "Everglades Special Swamp Water" coffee if you want to be a "Disney purist," in a strange meaning of that word. Me and my friends have no qualms about Starbucks in the Parks.

Extra Credit Assignment: (Rating: Easy) Go back to the very beginning of Disneyland, and find commercial sponsors that appeared in Disneyland, on buildings, on signs, in advertisements, with Walt's blessing and encouragement. Next, explore early Magic Kingdom and some very prominent business sponsors whose names appeared on WDW buildings and signs.

Some of today's commercial names that appear in Disney Parks now include Siemens, Kodak, Nestle, Dole, Coca-Cola, National Car Rental, Segway, Edy's, HP, Stanley Works, Brawny, Smuckers, Minute Maid, Hanes, Ocean Spray Craisins. There must be hundreds more.

Your idea of Disney Parks being commercial-free wonderlands is just not reality. It's always been a place of commercial partnership, led by Walt Disney himself. You have to look closer at signs on buildings outside and on walls inside; it's all there. How about the Illuminations Earth Ball in the middle of the Epcot lake. Doesn't it read something like "sponsored by Siemens" when Illuminations begins?

OP: As many have mentioned, there is already a lot of commercial presence in WDW. The difference is, at Disney, it's themed so that it's not noticeable.

Give it a chance.

I, for one, am happy about another coffee choice.

Well, they already have Coke, Sprite, etc in addition to Planet Hollywood, Wolfgang Puck, Cirque, Hard Rock Cafe, Siemens and Kodak (to only name a few) clearly noted throughout various places of WDW. Do you not consider that an "outside influence"?

Me too! On our last trip, we had Starbucks coffee available at our hotel and we went there everyday before hitting the parks. I did not care for the coffee available at Disney

They might as well stop serving Coke and water then! :rotfl2: Haha just kidding! But in all seriousness I am super excited that Starbucks is finally making a presence in WDW, Starbucks is the only coffee I like and going to WDW is painful without Satrbucks, I would always go offsite to get my coffee, now I'll be able to get it onsite!

I'm thrilled because I love chai lattes! I frankly hope that they have a strong presense.

Look around next time you're there. You'll see endless outside companies all over the place.

So glad they will have good coffee there now. Both Disney and Starbucks are $$ making Fortune 100 companies, so why not partner?
