Star Wars Weekend?

Hi,

DH and I are going for a surprise trip in May, and I just realized we will be there during the first Star Wars weekend, May 16 and 17.

I'd be happy to hear from anyone who has attended this event. What was it like? Were there any really good special activities? And are the crowds overwhelming?

We have been there during the weekends twice in the last few years and the crowds are really pretty moderate. MGM is really pretty normal except for the area around the Star Wars ride.
That is always pretty packed...but manageable.
As for the events we are medium Star Wars fans and thought they were kinda cool...however not world breaking. It does add another event to the loads of great things to do throughout the worlds so we like it. I know from asking the people around that were seriously into it that we met. If you are wanting autographs (from a big name) you have to be at the park well before opening and get a ticket for the line for later or you won't get anything signed, too many people.

We went back in 2000 and had a great time. They had face painting for the kids and numerous other events. There were also Storm Troopers gaurding the entrances to MGM on the roof.

Down by the entrance to Star Tours they had a DJ and numerous picture opportunities with all of the Star wars gang. They also had Hoola-Hoop contests and dance contests.

My kids loved the face painting, DS was made up as Chewbacca and DD was made up as Princess Amidalla.

As far as the crowds go, they weren't to far out oif the ordinary.

Agree with the other posters. It does get more packed than usual around Star Tours (of course) My Star Wars nut nephew doesn't miss a day of it. Hopefully I can make it over there on the 17th. Enjoy
