Star Wars Weekend Tips 2012

We met him in 2008 and he just seemed "out of it", we started talking and he just responded with very short answers...like I've said before he could have been having a bad day, everybody is entitled to that...:confused3 hopefully it'll be a great experience for those meeting him this year.

Just thought of that. It was like when I met Ray, he really didn't talk, but probably because of his schedule.

Carbon Freeze question...my DH has an appointment Friday morning. Can DD and I go in with him, even though we are not being Frozen? Thanks!

Yes, you can. My wife went with me, and there were several other folks who went with the person being frozen.

OK, gang, I promised I would post this, and it took me the better part of the day to get it done, but, here it is. We went last weekend (Memorial Day weekend). We did just Friday and Saturday at the Studios and got all we wanted to done. If you want a third autograph, of course you will need one more day. And, finally, this would not have gone as it did, except for the great help from the first weekenders whose intel and reports fed my planning. Thanks guys, paying it forward.

While this is not a thorough trip report covering the entirety of my recent trip to WDW, it does cover in depth the major day of SWW we attended and the subsequent partial day we achieved following:

Friday, May 25 - 5:05 AM - Arrive at DHS with my two buddies. We are already about 10-15 minutes late because one of them almost forgot his park ticket and was running behind from the start. Ultimately, this was only 5 minutes behind my projected arrival time to get in line for Ray Park (I have projected times which build in delays and such. Had we rolled when I was
ready, we would have been earlier.) We spent the next couple of hours chatting with the folks right ahead of us and right behind us.

Approximately 6:30-ish (not 100% sure because of massive sleep deprivation going on then) we get wristbanded. Karpkg and d_r were in line that day as well. I believe d_r was just ahead of us (like three people) and Karpkg was somewhere behind us. Their reports of the AM that day are accurate.

Approximately 7:15 - THe line moves and we get fastpasses for Ray Park. We get the 11:00 to 11:15 window - the end of the morning session. The girl behind us gets the same time. The guy immediately behind her gets afternoon session. This actually works out with my touring plan better than I could have hoped.

After this, we go to the middle of the turnstiles to see the Stormtrooper gate opening show. A few new jokes from last year. Good stuff. I was perfectly positioned that when they pointed to "that guy" and called him a nerfherder, it was right at me. Yep. I'm "that guy".

We get in and my buddy Dan heads to TS to get fast passes. My buddy Q heads with me to Star Tours. We walk right on, then meet up with Dan at Tatooine Traders. Q makes lightsaber and droids. Dan has already ridden TSM and he joins me for another Star Tours. This was mistake #1 for the weekend. We should have made our droids then, as the line got much longer later in the day. Q finishes just after we get done with the ride (just enough time to get pics of him making his droids - his first trip to WDW, as well). We head over to TSM and ride it, then go to Darth's Mall for some shopping. This was a pretty successful venture, except for the time we spent looking for R2D2 ornamet number 1701, or 1138, or 421 (geeks will get the references). We head out of there and then back to Tatooine Traders for droid building. At this point the line is about 30-40 minutes, and it is now 10:30. DOn't want to risk missing Ray Park, since we have the weekend, and Q, who leaves Saturday afternoon, has his already. We head to Echo Lake.

10:45 - Begin waiting for Ray Park.
11:00 - Continue waiting for Ray Park.
11:15 - Still waiting.
11:30 - Realize we could hav emade the droids, as we had guaranteed passes, but wer unsure of the window. We learn this as an earlier FP holder shows up around 11:10. Another 11:00-11:15'er gets there about 11:20. Yeah, droids could have been done.
11:45 - Meet Ray Park and have pics with him. Really cool guy, and he made sure all his fans got the autographs. He chatted with everyone, took lots of pics, everything.

We are hungry now, and Dan's wife and son have been with us since the Mall. We go for lunch since we realize that Q will be back with us for SWW stuff in the AM so the parade is not as high a priority at this point.

1:15 - Done with lunch, we get in line for the Behind the Force show.
1:45 - Do the show.
2:15 - Get out of show. Wander around a little, take a couple of pictures, find a bench to rest our feet.
3:00 - Mosey over to the line for Stars of the Saga. Meander into the line and walk right back into the theater through the proper queue area. See the show.
3:45/4:00 - Exit the show and repeat our earlier tactics. We do this because our feet hurt, Q had been at WDW for 4 days at that point and was wiped. I planned for this, and, this touring plan is being executed right down the line.
4:45 - See Obi-Wan and Beyond. Laugh hysterically at the show. Position ourselves back in line for A VIsit to the Maul, as the line is much longer for this than we saw on the previous shows.
6:00 - see A Visit to the Maul.
6:30 - Walk out of the show with a world of respect for Ray Park. Dan's wife is drooling muttering something about beefcake.

Not sure of the exact time, we head to TSM and ride it again. Many breakdowns, mess up the schedule. THis is mistake #2 for the weekend. Once ridden, we should have skipped it, however Dan and his wife love it, and I am one for rides, anyway, especially when we have fastpasses (I have no recall of when we got them, but I know we had them). After Q and I finish, we take Dan's son in the stroller (he's konked out) over to get a spot for Hoopla. We are successful. Not great, but we can see the stage, and hear the action. Dan and his wife are AWOL until it is over. I find out they got held up with mechanical issues and special needs riders. We are good to go for our 9:05 at Sci-Fi. There were some slight issues there, but that is for a different report.

We retire for the day.

Saturday, May 26 - reasonable time, but before the Studios opens. My wife and I have arrived before the Stormtroopers are done with their bit. We angle towards the autograph fast pass area and score standbys for Andy Secombe. We go into the Studios. Today is a little weird, as I have to go to the Mall to resolve an issue with my purchases from the day before. I got back to the room about 1 AM and found that my Passholder coin did not make it into my bag. They took care of that, and the wife and I did a little more shopping. We then head to Carbon Freeze Me, as I had a 9 AM appointment. I got a little delayed because her scooter died on the way, and she had to walk over to Sounds Dangerous from near RNR. It was only important as I wanted her to take pics of me doing it. We get done with the process and head back to get her scooter. SHe has to wait for the repair guy, who is now at the front of the park. I head over to build droids. It is a 30 minute wait, but I get my 4 done. It probably would have gone faster if there were not two guys ahead of me doing 20 and 12. It took an irate lady and a manager to stop them. THe line then moved pretty well. My wife and I head out and over to where Andy Secombe is doing his autographs. THey wave us right on in. We meet him and get pictures, etc.. We then head over to RNR to meet the rest of our friends. After some planning, we find us a spot near Brown Derby to watch the parade. After that, it is lunch, and the rest of the day is a typical day in the Studios on a crowded day. My friends and I got to ride some of our favorites together, which made the trip fantastic.

Heading to HS this weekend for a quick trip to Star Wars weekend!! My daughter and son-in-law are joining me, and dressing up as Leia and Hans Solo. We are hoping to get pictures with Chewy, is first thing in the morning best for him?? We ran into Chewy last year as he was leaving the meet and greet, would like to get a better picture this year.

Here's the picture from last year (that's my son dressed as Luke):

Is the hyperspace hoopla dance off going on this year? Any reviews on it?

We are headed there on Friday, what time was rope drop last weekend?

We went last year on the last weekend and had a blast, tons of characters were walking around, hyperspace hoopla rocked, the only thing we didn't get to do was eat that the space cafe - not sure of the name.

Looking forward to the weekend! Thanks for the help from everyone posting in here!

Yes, 8:00. It was a lot of fun with the Emperor as a rapper.

Rope drop has been happening at 7:30.

Do you mean Sci-Fi Drive In?

While your character timetable for SWW is most awesome and I appreciate that, would also appreciate not dropping any spoilers on HH for those who haven't gone yet. ;)

I'm putting the finishing touches on my character-centric plan for this Sunday. Anyone who cares to please comment on doability of this schedule. Character meet times are by kennythepirate and are assumed to be accurate for this coming weekend--I expect minor changes only.

9:30a - Arrive (seen Stormtroopers at entrance before, no interest in celebrity autographs)
10:30a - In line for R2D2/C3PO at Darth's Mall, both meet together at 10:50a (20 minutes in queue)
11:10a - Return to same line for Leia at 11:30a (20 minutes in queue)
12:40p - In line for Vader's return immediately after parade ~1:00p (30-40 minutes in queue)
1:40p - In line for Amidala for meet at 1:55p (15 minutes in queue)
2:45p - In line for Jedi Mickey/Leia Minnie, both meet together at 3:15p (30 minutes in queue)
4:15p - If necessary, in line for R2D2/C3PO if necessary (backup plan), both meet together at 4:35p (20 minutes in queue)
5:45p - Beauty and the Beast assuming all characters above done
7:30p - Find seat at stage or AI screen for Hyperspace Hoopla at 8:00p
10:30p - Fantasmic

In between times would be spent gathering FPs for TSM, RnRC and Star Tours, finding roaming characters, riding attractions standby if possible, shopping, and eating.

The main questions I have are:

- am I leaving about the right amount of time for R2D2/C3PO and Jedi Mickey/Leia Minnie to get through the standby queue so that I'm near the front when they show?
- Or am I being too optimistic with those or any other queue times?
- And none of these queues have had issues with CMs letting you allow others to pass for timing?

It will be a long day and we will still need to check in that night at POR, but no pressing need to get up early the next morning for Epcot. We might pass on Fantasmic also and do it again on another trip.

Thanks!

:scared1:

Timing it to meet rotating characters together is very ambitious and a luck of the draw; don't get too upset if they switch out ahead of you. Those times are too exact and only apply to the day they were taken. Don't put too much emphasis on them; treat them as a reference point instead.

Always double check with the CM manning the line the schedule of the characters for that day. Don't assume; they do change and are not set in stone. I'm the type that will ask how they feel about waiting aside for the character I want. A few had said no, others were accommodating.

Ex. Fab 4 line: Last Sat. it was Minnie, then Mickey, then Minnie, then Donald. Past wknd someone mentioned Mickey started out first, then Minnie. It doesn't even rotate evenly; Minnie came out more often than others.

I am encouraged because neither of you said my plan was complete bantha poodoo! I will expect some slower queues than normal, and of course allow some flexibility. All of my character times are pretty spread out, so I could pad some minutes where necessary to allow for it. If I gotta come back next year--thems the breaks. :) Thanks to you both!

Karpkg, when you eventually read this I'd love your opinion too. I'd be happy to split that twenty CF99 still owes me when it arrives. :goodvibes

In Beavus' voice, "heh, heh, heh, he said poodoo!" :rotfl:

Okay, I feel better knowing you do have realistic expectations. It's not like your 6 park/day adventure I had followed you before; there you controlled your actions, here the characters control the reins and sometimes they won't say where they're going.

I'll definitely want to hear your report when you get back.:wizard:

Thanks much--will do! I'll treat those times as set in Jello and check with CMs with each character.

kmcdougan,

Enjoyed your report!

I've been tempted to go down the line asking "Who here is from the DISboards?" But I chicken out every time. :bitelip:

I did try and ask the guy who was at the head of Ray Park's line what time he first got in but he wouldn't say. He called himself "Red Leader(?)" Hmmmm, like ooookkkaaayyyyy. Just a curious question; it's not like in the past where people grabbed 3-5 passes at once or saved the space in line for 20 other guys.:snooty:

I really like Yulilin3's idea of recording the voice actor's as a ringtone. I did kid around with Tom Kane saying I wish I brought a recorder since he kept teasing DS in his Yoda voice, and DS couldn't believe that he was Yoda. "But Yoda's short and you're tall!" :lmao:

I'm glad if tropical storm Beryl had to come through it was after SWW. Hoping it'll be clear this Friday. But if you're coming from out of town, don't forget to bring your ponchos just in case!

DD and i just love this picture so much :goodvibes

We can't wait to hug Chewy :cool1:

FYI ,Chewy is huge! In this picture he's actually hugging my daughter too, you can just see the bottom of her Princess Leia gown. It was such a spontaneous moment, Chewy greeted them like they were old friends, which I guess they kind of we're!

does anyone know about pricing for the build a droid?

I don't have my receipt at the moment but off the top of my head it's 11.95 for one and 18.95 for 2. Parts run out quickly, popular pieces are the hats and mouse ears, purple and clear head tops. Legs can get mismatched and hard to find in different bins. Best time to do it is NOT on SWW, and if you can't find parts one day try another day.

I keep forgetting to mention; take a pic at the Sounds Dangerous/Carbon Freeze Me location with Han Solo frozen in carbonite. The Photopass Photographer there is so lonely just standing around, LOL! He/she will use your camera to take pics with him, and of course if you have a photopass account it'll show up there.

IMG_1069.jpg

I think I'll get some more shots with Solo this Friday.

There's a cut out of troopers that you can stick your head on across from the Lights, Motors Action! I've seen roaming photopass photographers hang around and will also take your pics for you.

As Yulilin3 has said, there are different locations for the Darth Vader magic shots; if you see the light saber hanging from their belt that photographer can do the magic shot.

Get a pic with the speeder at Chewbacca's location.

A great 2 person pic is the one with the handcuffs at Boba Fett's location. One in handcuffs, another nearby as the bounty hunter. I've seen some comical posed actions there.

Found my Build A Droid example pics.

Cute little buggers.

Kids had theirs done last weekend. Me and DH will do ours this Friday. Crossing fingers they'll have replenished parts.

Thanks for all the great tips for SWW. I will be taking the kids to DisneyWorld the week of 9-16 June. So of course they want to visit HS on the 10th, to get the SWW in. They are huge fans, I on the other hand ,have no clue what they are talking about.lol One question is about the parade, do they have wheelchair area for the SWW parade?

Sorry, I didn't see any. But get to the parade early and ask a CM who's setting up the parade route.
