Star Wars Weekend Tips ~ 2011 Update

Ah, I see. Thanks. I love plushes, so I'm hoping to get one, for me and my friend's little girl. I've gotten her several, LE and not. And I have to figure out what to get for her boys! One of them loves SW!

What I like the best is the merch with Disney characters dressed as SW char, since this is at Disney. But the little boy might like having just plain SW stuff better. I always feel like you can get that at any store, but since this is SWW, would there be cool "plain" SW stuff there that you can't get anywhere else?

I've never been to Star War weekend....but we've seen the characters a few times
across the Street at Celebration's charity car show (usually in April).

I thought some of you Star Wars fans might enjoy our pics

Can we buy the darth vadar goofy and jedi mickey plush easily from DTD? If so, what store?

Do they make other SWW themed plushes?

We are going to be in DHS during SWW and I heard the stores are mobbed- I would much rather buy the plushes from DTD if possible

I have the same question regarding the character figures- do you have to buy them in dhs?

The DVC and AP pins usually don't sell out, and in the past only on the first Friday there has been a line made for merchandise but not after that, you just go to the store. This year the LE items will be at the AFI store, the store that you go thru when you exit the Backlot Tour, all other SWW merchandise will be at the store in front of Studio Catering (forgot the name), that one that's open aired; and Tatooine Traders.
To the other poster Tatooine Traders is open all the time, they don't close it during weekdays.
Things are running a bit differently this year, with all the celebs signing autographs and these 2 new locations for merch, so I guess we just have to wait for weekend one and report back

According to multiple sources the AP pin sold out in 'record time' last year, and last year was the first year for that pin. And this is the first year they are doing a DVC SWW pin and it's a LE as well. So I guess we are talking about different items.

We'll be there for the first 2 SWWs this year so I will be standing in line that very first friday morning. ;)

I thought I read yesterday (somewhere) that Tatooine Traders is closed during the week of SWW and only open during the festivities...is that the case?

Last year it was definitely open during SWW and other days of the week. If someone in your family has their heart set on a build your own lightsaber, I wouldn't do it during SWW. The line is HUGE then.

for the disney character (mickey, minnie etc) meet and greets- do you stand in one line to see them all, or do they each have individual lines?

If we are there at rope drop and go straight to the meet and greet character lines how long of a wait do you predict we will have?

We had this thought last year too and headed for the Jedi Mickey area. He wasn't due out until 9:45 am and neither of us wanted to wait in line. We headed back to the Backlot area and saw Vader instead. Most characters are not out at rope drop.

This was one of my complaints about SWW. There is no "schedule" per se of what characters are out when. If you see a CM with Star Wars stuff on, they usually know, but they don't have a times guide to pass out.

The characters have their own lines through out the park, but some lines have rotating characters. Jedi Mickey, Princess Leia Minnie and Darth Goofy/Stormtrooper Donald are in rotation in one area. Captain Rex and Ahsoka rotated in another etc. Just because you get in line when Mickey is out, doesn't mean he will still be up there when its your turn. Its very hard to see everyone in 1 day.

And that I believe they do have at Once Upon a Toy in DTD.

The Disney Magic and Disney Wonder are identical twins in many ways. Both display Mickey's colors: red, yellow and dark blue, two red stacks reminiscent of classic ocean liners of days gone by however the Disney Magic can be easily identified from the Disney Wonder. On the outside Sorcerer Mickey stands at the bow and the stern features a Goofy painting on the Disney Magic. The interior of the Disney Magic is art deco, characterized by slender forms, straight lines and a sleekness expressive of modern technology. Both ships offer oceanviews in 73% of the cabins and 60% of those feature a private verandah. The Disney Magic offers 7-day cruises to the Caribbean from Port Canaveral.

We plan on getting to DHS at rope drop on Sun May 23rd- Luckily we will have a GAD FP, so I am not worried about getting TSM fast passes-

I am trying to figure out if it would be best to grab a schedule and figure out where the jedi mickey, etc Meet and Greet is and go straight there to wait for an autograph and pic, or to use our GAD FP and ride TSM, then stand in line to meet the Toy Story characters....and then make our way over the jedi mickey(or who ever is there) meet and greet...

hi! Your GAD fastpass will work OK at the rides. However since this is the first and only year for GAD FP, I am not sure they will work at the FP machines for the autograph/pics from the movie actors (i.e. Peter Mayhew, etc.) We had to use our park tkts to acess the FP machines for them and then later in the day go to the meet/autograph sessions line at the time indicated on the FP. You may be able to use the GAD FP OK for the actors, but just want to give you a heads up since this is new and who knows?
And of course the FP machines are first come, first serve.

The movie actor greets for 5/22 - 5/24 2009 were held at these times:
Warwick Davis 9:45 am / 2:25 pm and 4:05 pm.
Ray Park 9:45 am / 2:25 pm and 4:05 pm
Jay Laga'aia 9:45 am / 4:00 pm

Maybe we'll see you in one of the lines

To get a FP ticket for celeb autograhs you don't need to put it into any FP machine, they are handed out by CM's outside the turnstiles, just wanted to clarify this.

I think that you'd be best off seeing Jedi Mickey and that gang first thing. Since you have GAD FP for TSM, I wouldn't worry about getting there first thing. Then see the Toy Story characters. While this line may have a bit of a wait, it will be much better than Jedi Mickey's line later in the day.

And just a note, Jedi Mickey rotates with Minnie, Donald and Goofy, so depending on how long the line is, you may not meet the character who is out when you first get into the line. You also may need to get into this line several times if meeting all four are top on your priority list.

If I want to make sure I get a pic with each Disney in SW costuming character could I just continually be in that line and wait at the front until the next character I need comes along. Then once I get my photo I get back in line to wait for the next one? Do you think the CMs would allow this?

Do you mean once you get to the front that you will keep letting people pass you until your character comes along? Then, yes, people do it all the time in the rotating character lines. (We were able to see Captain Rex in record time last year since the 50 people ahead of us wanted to see Ahsoka)

If you mean that after you get a picture with the character you want that you go back to your place in front of the line (allowing people to pass until the next one), then no. After you get your picture, you go back to the end of the line.

Does that make sense?

exactly right, very well explained :)
