We are going to WDW from June 9-16th. It will be my family (husband, self & 8yr old daughter), sister & family (sister, husband, 8yr old boy & 5 yr old girl), and my parents (60 & 70 yrs old).

My family are not big Star Wars fans, but sister & parents really want to do MGM (or whatever they changed their name to - and why?)during that weekend. We don't have to stay together, but parents kinda want to - otherwise 2 of the days we will be at different parks (ok w/us, but trying to go along w/parents).

Anyway do we go to MGM on that Friday, we do the rest of the park & they do the park & Star Wars....... or do we avoid the park all together since we have no interest in the Star Wars stuff?

Will it just be that packed being Star Wars & June to avoid it, or will everyone be at the Star Wars stuff - the rest of the park will be empty?:confused3

Opinions please....

We went during Star Wars Weekends one year and had a lot of fun. The Stormtroopers opened the park, which was cool, there is a parade in the morning also very cool, and then there were photo op's around the park. Didn't think SWW made it any more crowded than usual, though, on the weekend. Have a great time!

trip on a Sunday and it was very busy. Fridays are probably the least busy of the Star War days.

I agree with the PP. It can be fun without being Star Wars fans. We didn't discover the Empire's area until later in the day. They had all kinds of characters just strolling around the street. Some of the bigger names, like Darth, were there for pictures and autographs, but there were a lot of characters just raoming for effect.

Any one else go before? Does the Star Wars make a difference on a Friday? Should we just stick w/the family?

Opinions please....

My husband and I go for at least one SWW every year. We are fans; but not terribly rabid :rotfl2:

Anyway, yes - Friday would be the least busy day; but none are all that crowded. It is so much fun to see the fans that really dress for the occasion - really cool costumes. The parade is wonderful.

You can pick up a special program of events on your way in, to see what times the special guest appearances are.

It is now Disney Hollywood Studios btw. And there is a very nice merchandise shop set up for the occasion, of course.

Have fun!

We go regularly and it's a normally busy day like any other in June. The big difference is the "Star Wars" presence everywhere in the park and special parades, events and photo opps with the characters and merchandise.
The characters are truly unique and I would advise a photo shot with as many as you can get. Even though you say you are not big fans, I believe this event will change your mind. Make sure you make dining ADRs and utilize fastpasses as you would any other busy time, and take advantage of the special events. 2 years ago they ran a movie (exclusively for the park) by George Lucas that told of the "making of Star Wars" with the original auditions, behind the scenes footage, and how close he came to not being able to make one at all! I learned who the final 2 for Princess Leia were: Carrie Fisher and Cindy Williams (of Laverne and Shirley fame at the time):rotfl:
Star Wars in concentrated in the West and North sides of the park around the lagoon, Star Tours, and Mickey Avenue. The rest of the park is more "normal" DHS environment.
Have Fun and keep an open mind:darth: :yoda: :ewok: :chewy:
