Hi I tried posting this question on the DVC planning board and I had no responses so maybe you all can help me. I am trying to plan a surprise trip for my 5yr son for the star wars weekend. I am trying to figure out what would be the best days jun1-jun5 or jun8-jun12. I guess my concern for the first dates are the crowds for gay day or gay weekend. I am not sure how crowded it gets. Also I have never been to Disney during this time of year how are the crowds in general? One last question, if anyone has any advice for me for star wars weekend I would appreciate it. Thank you in advance if any advice or info.
Amy

I'll see you there! My husband and I just decided to go to Disney for Star Wars this year! He is a HUGE star wars freak and can't wait to go!

Amy,

This will be our 3rd Star Wars weekend with my 10 and 7 year old sons. What you want to do there depends on your priorities. Do you want autographs? If so do those first. Maybe someone else can help you with the procedure to do that since we never have cared to wait for those. If you primarily are concerned about activities for your son, don't miss the Jedi Trivia game for kids and the Jedi training. My son loves fighting Darth Vader on the stage and it is a sight not to miss. When you come in the park, hang a left towards Star Tours and look for the tents where you sign up for the Jedi Trivia game. The Jedi training is held close to star Tours and you just have to wait and yell loud enough to get them to pick your child. My son has always been picked due to his enthusiasm.

As far as dates, we are going Jun 10- 17th. With Gay days being the week of June 1st - 5th, I'd pick the other week due to the possibly increased crowds.

We always have fun during SWW and I know you will too!
:thumbsup2

On the other hand, Gay Days will be at MK on Saturday June 3rd, and Epcot June 4, so you should be okay at MGM for Star Wars Weekend.

I was there last year with my 3-yr old grandson and he loved it. I hate to admit it, but I got a kick out of it also!! We were there May 20 - 29 and had a ball. I guess we were too early for Gay Days but I didn't notice anything going on except Star Wars stuff!! There were so many costumed guests walking thru the park. And lots of costumed characters to have your picture taken with. Go and have a blast!!

Thank you all so very much for all the advice. I can't wait to surprise my son we plan to pick him up from school and head straight to the airport. For a 5yr,old Star Wars is all he can talk about I am just so thrilled we are able to do this for him. I know I have been bugging all of you about questions, but what is opening weekend like?

We went last year on opening weekend - holy cow!!! It was soooo crowded on that first day (it was a Friday)!! I would suggest any weekend but the first weekend - it was very crowded - the store alone had a 3 hr wait just to get in and shop around. We did get on Star Tours but later in the day the line got really long. We also waited in line for autographs (we have no little kids - but we both love Star Wars) and got pics with alot of characters. I think the longest we waited was like an hour for Darth Vader and it was definitely worth it. We got a great a pic with him. Check out my link for pics!!

I have the exact opposite theory. The first weekend is the best because the next weekend is Memorial Day Weekend (you thought it was crowded when you went?) and the rest of the weekends are in June when it gets very hot and even more crowded. First weekend is best but it sounds like it's not an option for the original poster.

I'd go with the first weekend in June. As you move through June, the parks get more crowded and the temps get hotter. The first weekend in June is the lesser of the two evils.

Does anyone know where to find a schedule of events/more details?
We're planning on going June 9. DS 6 is a HUGE fan! :darth:

It would help to know what activites are scheduled when, so that we could put together a touring plan to use our time more efficiently. GONETODISNEY suggested autographs first. We'll be there on an early entry day- would the characters be out that early?

:confused3
Thanks!

Sorry- I just saw the link that QuickGold provided! (Thank you QuickGold- I'll read up on it)
I'd still be interested in advice about what order to do things in (I'm sure DS will want to do it all)

:thumbsup2 There's a touring tips section on the SWW website that Quick Gold provided... Thanks Again!

I know you found the the list of events but an actual schedule (with times and such) won't be available until the week of the first Star Wars Weekend

First thing you absolutely must do is stop by the signup table that is located between Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular and Star Tours. From here, you can sign up for the trivia challenges, Jedi Training, etc. Once you get times of when you're doing those, you can start planning the rest of your day.

If you're interested in SWW merchandise (especially the merchandise that is weekend specific), then I would actually go buy that right after you sign up. Last year there was a mad rush for these items and they were gone quite quickly.

Next, look for when the showings of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire (Star Wars edition) is (usually 2 or 3 per day) and see the first one (assumign it doesn't conflict with anything you signed up for).

After that, figure out when celebs will be out to sign autographs and work that in (assuming you're interested)

Then work in things like Star Tours, the talks the celebs give, meeting the characters, parade (and other little things like eating, going to the bathroom and breathing).

Once the schedule for that Friday comes out (I believe Steve Soares' site posts them the week of the first weekend and if not, I'll have a copy on my site) start planning these things out beforehand so you can quickly sign up for the the events that require signing up for and go from there. Let me know if you have any questions (or if anything I just wrote made any sense)

Since your son is little he may really enjoy meeting Mickey dressed as a Jedi. When we were there all the little ones were soooo excited by that! (Okay, I was too).

If you don't want to wait in the line to get into the main store, next to Star Tours, you can get merchandise at the Indiana Jones store and the store by Sounds Dangerous. If you are into Pins they have different pins each weekend.

I'll see you there if you go the 8th-12th! It's so much fun!

We were waiting for "Wishes" in the middle of Main Street on Feb. 21 (with my 2 nephews who are HUGE Star Wars fans) when my SIL turns to me and says "That's George Lucas"! I turned around and not 5 feet from us there he was and not one person appeared to notice him. My nephews stared at him the entire time...they never even looked up to see the fireworks. That night, all their "wishes" did come true!!!!!
