Hah! Mam? Sir? BDCP is gender neutral? :-)

I'm also respecting yours and/or your spouse's and/or family's military service as well. (Shades of Green stays)

Very grateful whomever it may be.

Cheers.

BDCP is family initials. I'm a she married to a he. DH served 30 years in the US Navy. Love Shades :-)

Thanks!

This sort of thing is what makes the fact that she’s supposedly descendent of no one special less palatable to me. All that raw power, essentially untrained, goes “straight to the darkness” (or whatever Luke says), yet when faced with temptation (rule the galaxy won Kylo) she easily resists.

I still think they may well reverse out of the parentage thing... hope they do.

I have a theory about Rey's parentage after a second watch. I think she may in fact share a "parent" with Anakin Skywalker, and I don't mean Shmi. Perhaps she is a Force created "chosen one" to help re-balance everything again. Just a thought.

Waited for a little bit to watch TLJ, but finally did.

I thought it was outstanding, but there is something I might be missing. Rose was rescued, but her ship was destroyed in front of TFO (not sure about the names of the walkers). How did she get into the Falcon? If the Falcon returned to get her, wouldn't TFO have destroyed it?

Finn drags her back after the crash. So Finn and Rose get on the Falcon with everyone else.

You must have missed the scene where Finn drags her back into the base calling for a medic. Somehow that area it took the skis several beautiful cinematic minutes to cross at very high speed he walked across in no time dragging an almost mortally injured Rose the whole way. Try not to think too much about it, it's just another massive flaw in the movie...

I missed or forgot about him dragging her. But, yeah....TFO would have blown them to bits I guess.

Since Snoke said he put thoughts in Kylo and Ren's minds just moments before (from when they touched earlier) and they "took the bait" why would any of us conclude Kylo knew the facts about her parents?

I think there are still a lot of directions they could go - it could be like you said and Snoke planeted the images, just that Kylo lied to Rey (just like Palpatine did to Anakin when trying to convert him and playing on his emotions).

Personally I am ok with her not being connected to the Skywalkers, but if that is the case, then I hope the storyline wraps up through Kylo rather than her.

Maybe something like Kylo has grown incredibly strong in the Force/Dark Side and when cornered by Rey and others at the end of Ep IX he threatens to destroy everything including himself just to end all the back and forth and then Anakin's force ghost appears and talks him out of it saying something like "I tried to change the future as well, and looked what happened. You can't change your destiny and you can't change who you are. You can't not be Ben Solo anymore than I couldn't not be Anakin Skywalker." And then Ben listens, a single tear runs down his face and then he walks into the embrace of the Force Ghosts of Anakin and Luke

Then Rey says "it's time for me to leave, as this is not where I belong, I need to make my own trail and find my own destiny" And the last scene you see is in her ship the books of the Whills AND Snokes dark ring

And let's not forget that - according to the movie's timeline and plot (only one way into the base) Finn would've had to drag her right through the middle of the Kylo/Luke showdown to get back (or at least past Kylo at some point). "Sorry. Pardon us. Excuse me. Don't mind us - sorry to interrupt your light sword fight. Passing through. Excuse us."
A battering ram that used a laser-like cannon that would "cut the door open"? Maybe it was a melting ram. :rolleyes1
Someone mentioned earlier that the end battle was a bit like Helms Deep. That was half on my mind on a second watch - looking for Uruk-Hai dragging the battering ram and waiting for lost Jedi Gandalf to show up and save the day with reinforcements from planet Rohan responding to the Resistance distress signal. Still a fantastic end to the movie (despite my distraction and some stretched logic).

I loved TLJ. Did it have rocky patches? Sure did. But I always base my enjoyment of movies on whether or not it kept me interested and how it made me feel. I was completed invested in it. I laughed, cried, got excited (though I always get excited over the opening crawl).

I think what I’ve had issue with the most has been comments I’ve read and it’s primaril because I disagree with them. My biggest beef is when people call Rey a Mary Sue. My view is that because of her upbringing it makes sense that she can already fight well with a light sabre and that it’s easier for her to tap into the Force powers. Rey grew up alone fighting for herself so she developed skills that easily transferred into lightsabers. Because she spent so much time alone she was likely more given to self awareness and introspection. Add in Snoke’s comment about how as Kylo grows stronger in the darke so does his counterpart in the light. It makes sense to me. Oddly no one has issue with Luke tapping into the force in NH without anything but a bit of training on route to Alderon.

People hate on Leia using the force to save herself in space. Again it makes sense that she would as she is force sensitive though it’s undeveolp due to her choice to lead the rebellion. It sure looked awkward but her using it was logical. I disagree with those that say she couldn’t have done it. She was even conscious and it was a body or mind’s reaction to immenient death.

And of course there’s the hate for Amylin Holdo. I wasn’t crazy about the dialogue or the choice of Laura Dern but the character and story was great. Of course she didn’t tell Poe the plan. I wouldn’t either. He had just been demoted for not following orders and there was potentially a First Order spy on board (no one knew how they were being tracked). The chain of command does not owe answers to the crew just because they want it, strategic plans are divulged only to those who need to know. Poe didn’t need to know and really couldn’t be trusted. One thing that kills me about the hate for Holdo is all the bad woman driver memes out there. Like seriously?

Yea, but did I see a tunnel back to the mine that went from those trenches? If so that would at least help it to be a bit more believable. Not "into" the mine, but back to it.

It’s sorta like the asteroid field in empire when it was parodied by family guy. “I’m pretty sure we have 4 or 5 main characters on this ship so I think we’ll be fine”. Probably what Finn said dragging rose back half a mile to the base “I’m kinda a big deal in this movie, they need my character for episode 9”

Not TLJ related but I just watched the first episode of the toys the made us on Netflix. It’s all about Star Wars toys really good brought back a lot memories.

I just finished that episode and was coming here to tell others about it.

The sad part is IX could be a better flick with lower box office numbers. I know I would have a hard time shelling out $50 after watching this one.

I can kind of see the Mary Sue complaint with Rey in TFA but not in TLJ. If they had fleshed out an explanation it would probably go down better (perhaps one of the reasons people want her parents to be known force users).

That said, I think there has always been a huge double standard with the concept of Mary Sues. When male characters can do extraordinary things you get James Bond, Jason Bourne, Luke Skywalker, and every superhero character ever created. When female characters can do extraordinary things, it’s totally unbelievable wish fulfillment.

History says probably not. I'll see the last one. I'm invested even if this one left a bad taste in my mouth. I am, however, less likely to see Solo. I really don't want to watch them screw up another OT character.

But I'm sure we will see lower box office numbers for IX than VII at the least. That has been the pattern. IV did better than V or VI, though VI did better than V. And I slaughtered II and III in the box office, though III beat II. So it is likely that the "finale" IX will do better than VIII, though it is very unlikely to come near VII.

Which is interesting, because V is my favorite but has the lowest all-time box office by a mile, and III, in my opinion, is the best of the prequels, but wasn't even close to catching I. Hopefully IX will be better than VIII, regardless of the box office.
